JOKER NZ TOUR DATES

Nightcap returns for its 3rd year this winter with yet another finely tuned bunch of DJ/producers from around the world and right here at home in New Zealand. This year among the lineup will be DJ/Producer Joker!

Signed to 4AD records, Bristol’s Joker is one of the most often imitated, yet rarely matched artists currently active within the global bass music community. Studied in the histories of R&B, soul and funk, he folds these influences into a blueprint grounded in the rhythms of UK Grime, 8-bit video game music, and the subwoofer rupturing bass pressure of dubstep.

TOUR DATES

Wednesday 25th July – Union Hall – Dunedin

Thursday 26th July – UCSA Event Centre – Christchurch

Friday 27th July – The Frontroom – Wellington

Saturday 28th July – Studio – Auckland

EFTERKLANG ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘PIRAMIDA’

After a sell-out show at the Sydney Opera House earlier this year, 4AD and Rhythmethod are excited to formally announce the release of Efterklang’s fourth album Piramida. The album will be released on Friday 21 September 2012.

The making of Piramida started in unusual fashion in August 2011, when the members of Efterklang (Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg) went on a nine-day audio expedition to an abandoned Russian settlement in Spitsbergen, an Arctic island located just shy of the North Pole. Spitsbergen is home to more polar bears than people and also to the ghost town of Piramida, which was abandoned overnight in the 90s, and today stands as a slowly decaying ruin.

To get a sense of what happened there, Efterklang have produced a video that gives a tantalising insight into this unique journey – it’s the best way to understand how they obtained over 1,000 sounds to sample for the new album. Along with discovering the world’s northernmost grand piano, the trio spent nine days exploring and recording the sounds that would inspire and build the songs on Piramida. Watch the video below.

In May 2012, Efterklang were invited to perform at the Sydney Opera House, where they premiered the album with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. You can watch a magical performance of album track ‘The Ghost’ below.

DOWNLOAD NEW PURITY RING FROM DEBUT LP ‘SHRINES’

Purity Ring have unveiled the new single from their forthcoming debut album. Available to download below, ‘Fineshrine’ is the second song to be taken from their highly anticipated albumShrines, which will be released on 20 July via 4AD/Rhythmethod.

‘Fineshrine’ might be considered the band’s most anthemic song to date, an impressive feat for those who’ve been paying attention to the band’s output since their inception only a year and a half ago. Megan James’ lyrics are at once grisly and tender, a blood-soaked love song that sits atop Corin Roddick’s mammoth, ear-burrowing production.DOWNLOAD:
