KAYTRANADA: New single ‘Drive Me Crazy’ feat. VIC MENSA
Two of 2014’s most exciting breakthrough artists, Kaytranada and Vic Mensa, come together to kickstart 2015 with the brilliant new single ‘Drive Me Crazy’. ‘Drive Me Crazy’ is Kaytranada’s second release on XL Recordings following the success of 2014’s highly-acclaimed ‘Leave Me Alone’, and is another pointer towards the sound of the 22 year old, Montreal-based producer’s hotly-anticipated debut album which is set for release later this year.
Kaytranada is widely regarded as one of the most important new producers in the musical landscape and for ‘Drive Me Crazy’ he’s joined by similarly-acclaimed Chicago rapper Vic Mensa. First coming to prominence in 2013 via his Innanetape mixtape and a guest appearance on Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap, Vic Mensa shone even brighter in 2014 with the release of his debut single ‘Down On My Luck’ and tours with Danny Brown andDisclosure.
In addition to brand new music, 2015 also sees Kaytranada joining the team at BBC Radio 1’s Residency, featuring alongside the likes of Flying Lotus,Skream and Jon Hopkins. His first show is available to hear in full here with further shows lined up for February and March.

MERCURY PRIZE NOMINEE ‘EAST INDIA YOUTH’ ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘CULTURE OF VOLUME’RELEASED ON XL RECORDINGS ON 3rd APRIL 2015
Over the last year, London-based East India Youth has combined strikingly original music with euphoric live performances and has quickly become recognised as one of the most experimental and captivating artists around.
Today he announces details of his brand new album titled CULTURE OF VOLUME; his first since signing to XL Recordings. The record follows his critically acclaimed debut album TOTAL STRIFE FOREVER (released in January 2014 on Stolen Records) that went on to be nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Mostly recorded and produced in his bedroom at home in London and named after a fragment of verse from the poem ‘Monument’ by Rick Holland, CULTURE OF VOLUME was mixed by Graham Sutton and the artwork was created by visual artist Dan Tombs (inspired by Andy Warhol’s experiments with computer technology).
Dark Red is the second full-length album from Shlohmo, aka 25 year-old Los Angeles native Henry Laufer. Shlohmo’s music thus far exists in the poles between the subtly textured tracks of Bad Vibes and the booming sinister synths and hi-hats of his production work and remixes (such as his split EP with Jeremih, Banks’ “Brain”, remixes for Drake + The Weeknd). The record is an uncanny marriage of his ever-evolving, richly textured sound with shades of ’90s IDM, R&B, cassette-tape Jungle, and, in an unexpected turn, sludge metal. “It sounds like if Electric Wizard tried to make an R&B record,” he says, “or Boards of Canada meets Burzum by the River Styx.”
Dark Red will be released April 3rd, 2015 on True Panther/WeDidIt via Rhythmethod. Digital pre-order from ITunes link:https://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/dark-red/id955876029
Ariel Pink has released the video for his latest single ‘Dayzed Inn Daydreams’, the next instalment in a series of videos directed by LA-based filmmaker Grant Singer.
Following on from promos for pom pom tracks ‘Put Your Number In My Phone’ and ‘Picture Me Gone, ‘Dayzed Inn Daydreams’ finds Singer continuing to explore the mundanity and bliss of suburban American life. The central role is performed by Rick Wilder (from cult punk band The Mau-Mau’s), with the video including a cameo appearance from Ariel.
“It’s the story of a man, played by Rick Wilder, who was once the frontman of a band that existed decades ago. Through a series of scenes depicting his everyday life, we tell his story.” – Grant Singer
‘Dayzed Inn Daydreams’ is the closing track from pom pom, Pink’s 17-track magnum opus released late last year. The track features Spiritualized’s Jason Pierce on guitar.
Introducing: ALGIERS – But She Was Not Flying (Matador)
Algiers fuses the rapturous call and response of millenarian gospel, the bellowing urgency of 60s protest soul and the unhinged ferocity of no wave into a visceral music. With an aesthetic informed by sonic revolutionaries from Nina Simone to Suicide, The Minutemen to PJ Harvey, these three émigrés of the American Deep South conjure dead sounds to life in frightening new directions.
“It’s dark stuff, but good grief they’ve got soul” – Marc Burrows, The Guardian
Algiers’ self-titled debut album is coming later in 2015 from Matador.

Watch: KAREN O PREMIERES “DAY GO BY”
A short film for Karen O’s “Day Go By” has gone live, which Vogue says “will make you swoon” here. Filmed in Miami and directed by wiissa, the duo of creative partners Vanessa Hollander and Wilson Philippe, the short is the second from O’s solo album ‘Crush Songs‘, out now on Cult Records.
O tells Vogue, “I wrote this song when I was living in Los Angeles and my boyfriend was stuck freezing in NYC, I really needed my fix of being with him but was miles away. Wiissa brings summer loving to everyone who’s braving a cold winter’s day with this little video for ‘Day Go By.’ My husband has a Vespa, all I’m missing is the cut off tee and then we too can be as in style as these two cuties in Wiisaa’s ‘Day Go By’ short.”
Hollander says, “We loved the ephemeral nature of ‘Day Go By’ and wanted to capture a glimpse of a summer memory, passing by just as fast as the song fades away.”
In addition to the short film, Cult Records will release a limited Valentine’s Day vinyl 7” edition of “Rapt,” the lead track from Crush Songs, on Friday 13th February 2015. The release will be issued on etched pink vinyl featuring O’s personal drawings and artwork as well as an embossed, die-cut heart with customizable card insert for fans to dedicate the record to their sweetheart. The B-side features an exclusive remix of “Rapt” from TRZTN.
JOSH TILLMAN INTRODUCES BREAKTHROUGH DIGITAL MUSIC SERVICE – Streamline Audio Protocol (SAP)
DEBUTS SAP WITH FREE STREAM OF HIS NEW FATHER JOHN MISTY ALBUM – “I LOVE YOU HONEYBEAR”
A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM INNOVATOR/SONGWRITER JOSH TILLMAN:
Hello! As an artist, it has been thrilling to see how a decade or so of increasingly free music on the internet has facilitated a veritable anarchic consumer utopia for fans of sharing, rating, discovering and music. Within the last year or so, I started to ask myself a question: We all know free is great for the fans, but how can we extend this freedom to artists as well? Is there a way to ensure that no one, artist or fan, ever has to spend, or lose, any money on music ever?
For much more information and an exclusive SAP stream of my new album I Love You, Honeybear head to: www.fatherjohnmisty.com
Watch: King Tuff’s “Headbanger” (Official Video) via Funny or Die
King Tuff’s ‘Black Moon Spell’ available now on CD/LP/DL worldwide from Sub Pop
You can now watch “Headbanger,” the hilarious official video from King Tuff via Funny or Die. “Headbanger” stars the band, Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and plenty of other bands from the bottom of the charts of past and present.
Jake Folgenest, who directed the new visual, had this to say: “As soon as I heard the King Tuff album I said, ‘Man I wish could watch a performance of them playing on “Top Of The Pops” in 1975.’ Since it would be impossible for that footage to exist, the next best thing was to call Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols and make it ourselves.”
King Tuff adds this: “We made another video for all the shitmonkeys of the world to enjoy (see Funny or Die January 21st)”
