Cut Worms shares ‘Song Of The Highest Tower’

Debut EP, Alien Sunset, out October 20th via Jagjaguwar

“Clarke’s songs as Cut Worms are filled with homespun charm and vintage patina, and “Like Going Down Sideways,” the lead single for his debut EP for Jagjaguwar, is some of his most pleasant work yet.” – Pitchfork

Cut Worms (a.k.a. Max Clarke) is excited to share “Song of the Highest Tower” via FLOOD Magazine. This is the second single off his first-ever EP, “Alien Sunset,” which is out next Friday, October 20th via Jagjaguwar / Rhythmethod.

“Song of the Highest Tower” was written on the same day that Loud Reed passed away in October of 2013. It was also inspired by the Arthur Rimbaud poem of the same name. Here’s what Clarke has to say about the track:

I came across the Velvet Underground in high school. It was new and unheard of in my little suburb and it changed how I looked at music in a profound way. I wanted to honor that, or if not, pay it back, and at least give some kind of credit. One thing about the self-titled Velvet Underground album that really struck me was that they were fairly simple songs, but each song on that album contained a whole revelation. There wasn’t any bullshit or filler or flash, it just was what it was and it felt important. With the Rimbaud poem, I happened to be flipping through this book of poems at the same time I had the melody to that song and it somehow matched up perfectly. When I was writing “Song of The Highest Tower,” I wasn’t actually thinking about any of this stuff. I just wrote it and recorded it on my 8-track and that was it. But now looking back, I’m able to say that it could be a tribute to Lou Reed of sorts.

DREAM WIFE FIRE REMIX EP OUT NOW

London-based and British/Icelandic born Dream Wife have released their Fire EP, a collection of four remixes of their latest single of the same name; “Fire” (biLLLy remix) .

LISTEN TO ‘FIRE’ EP

Earlier in the week, Gorilla vs. Bear premiered the Ellie Herring remix. Of this edit, Dream Wife had to say: “In Ellie’s remix of ‘Fire’ the song takes on a new and moody form. It’s exciting to hear this transformation of something so familiar to us.

Ellie commented: “Remixing ‘Fire’ was challenging in the sense that I did what I normally do by creating 12 edits in 3 different genres… but then multiply that by 10. I’m exaggerating, but this production timeline really caught me in one of my more indecisive stints of 2017 & I overworked it until pigs flew. Fortunately Dream Wife handed over a lot of great cuts from the original; I pulled off the shredding guitar riffs & focused more on keeping Rakel’s vocal lead towards the front. The remix ended up more of a rework, but in a format that I’ve been playing out lately.

DREAM WIFE

Rakel Mjöll (lead vocals)
Alice Go (guitar and vocals)
Bella Podpadec (bass and vocals).

PRAISE FOR DREAM WIFE

Dream Wife have made the perfect song for Leo season.
The FADER

Icelandic-Brightonian three-piece with the attitude of New York
punks and pizazz of disco queens.

The Guardian

A well-oiled machine worthy of the Strokes but performed with the righteous
indignation of Bikini Kill…snappy, punk-informed rock ‘n’ roll.

Stereogum

“Dream Wife is a perfect example of what makes SXSW special,
the discovery and excitement of seeing something real that
has feeling and meat to it, and makes you grateful you
were there to witness it.

NPR Music

“Dream Wife offer a soundtrack ripe for a punk Sofia
Coppola movie soundtrack.

Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile new single! with the sweetest video..

Continental Breakfast
taken from forthcoming LP
‘Lotta Sea Lice’
released October 13th
on Milk! Recordings/ Remote Control

“Harmonies and guitarmonies galore” Courtney

“An intercontinental country duo for the ages (minus the country, haha)” Kurt

By now you would have heard that Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, two of the most accomplished songwriters of their generation, are releasing a very special collaborative album, Lotta Sea Lice October 13th – at once a glorious peek behind the studio doors of two acclaimed artists and an unabashed celebration of their unique, longstanding friendship.

After the runaway success of opening single Over Everything, the video for their magical new single Continental Breakfast gently pushes the door open just a little bit further. Using intimate home footage shot over four days of Kurt and Courtney in their respective family environments surrounded by friends and relatives, Continental Breakfast  goes beyond being a mere music video and becomes a mini documentary of sorts, capturing candid, honest moments that show the loving and playful nature of both musicians.

Director Danny Cohen says:

‘Continental Breakfast’ was made while spending time with Courtney and Kurt in Melbourne and Philadelphia, it’s an intimate home movie into their lives and the time spent with family and friends between recording /touring. Shot on 16mm, the mini-documentary captures honest moments that show the loving and playful nature of both Courtney and Kurt. It was such a treat to experience life with Courtney and Kurt in their natural habitats. It really left me feeling like part of the family and hopefully fans can feel that too.

It’s just another delightful layer to what is already promising to be one of the most compelling albums of the year.

Mechanized grooves are placed at the forefront, providing a framework for perforated electro-pop static, gothic textures, and insistent Krautrock motifs. She employs a more animated, frantic delivery to convey the dark obsessive desires described in ‘Helen in the Woods,’ while elsewhere she exhibits a throaty, hollow timbre or takes a solemn, reverential approach.

“Rock’s Not Dead: It’s Ruled by Women” Introducing… Snail Mail (Matador Records)

Snail Mail is Jordan’s first band. Though she took up the guitar at age 5 and has been playing ever since, it wasn’t until the spring of 2015—moved by the complementary forces of a devastating Grouper drone set and an insurrectionary Downtown Boys rock baptism—that she endeavoured to form a group of her own. Two weeks after their first practice, Snail Mail played their debut gig at a Maryland festival alongside punk bands Sheer Mag, Priests, and Screaming Females.”

The Brooklyn dwelling Baltimore native Lindsey Jordan piqued Matador’s curiosity with her artful approach to guitar playing, anchored firmly in the heritage of the female-led rock canon of the 90’s and beyond.

Off the back of earning enviable praise and column inches that bely her years, Lindsey & Matador have inked a deal which will see them working towards the release of a new full length record in 2018, the first material since last year’s ‘Habit’ EP. Snail Mail will be seeing out the year playing shows in the U.S.A with Beach Fossils.

Plus a video for the track ‘Thinning’ can be viewed here:

WATCH THE NICK WALKER-DIRECTED VIDEO BELOW

Everything Is Recorded – the new collaborative artist project from Richard Russell – today release a new single, ‘Mountains Of Gold’ via XL Recordings. It sees the record producer and XL Recordings head, renowned for his album production work for Bobby Womack, Damon Albarn, Ibeyi and Gil Scott-Heron among others, collaborating with a diverse host of acclaimed artists in the form of London’s very own Sampha (who also lent vocals to Everything Is Recorded’s debut track ‘Close But Not Quite’), French-Cuban duo Ibeyi, NYC rapper WIki and LA jazz titan Kamasi Washington.

“’Mountains of Gold’ is sound system inspired, you can hear a lot of strong and different personalities and voices in the one song, but the feeling is consistent. Everyone has plenty of space” – Richard Russell

‘Mountains Of Gold’ comes accompanied by a Nick Walker-directed video. The video, which was shot in Los Angeles, features, in order of appearance, Kaner Flex, Lisa-Kainde Diaz (Ibeyi), Mela Murder, Naomi Diaz (Ibeyi), Infinite, Sampha, Wiki, Kamasi Washington, Hardy Blechman, Richard Russell and Quincy Jones.

‘Mountains Of Gold’ is the follow up to Everything Is Recorded’s debut ‘Close But Not Quite’ EP, which featured a similarly eclectic host of international artists including Sampha, Giggs, Obongjayar, Tic, Warren Ellis, Infinite, Mela Murder, Green Gartside and Baluji Shrivastav.. Both releases provide a captivating snapshot of the kind of collaboration and experimentation that has taken place at Russell’s west London studio, The Copper House. This studio has become a creative second home for a revolving cast of vocalists and musicians who pass through to write, record and share ideas, mixing traditional recording sessions with extended, uninhibited live jams.

‘Mountains Of Gold’ is available from today on all digital services and on 12” vinyl featuring exclusive B-side ‘Mountains Of Dub feat. Kamasi Washington’. ‘Mountains Of Dub’ also features live mix and outboard effects by Brian Eno, Redlight and Seb Chew.

Look out for more Everything Is Recorded releases in the very near future.
