To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Purity Ring’s debut album Shrines, Megan James and Corin Roddick have released a new song ‘Asido’. The track is a stand alone gift to their fans while the band continues to work on the follow up to their second album, another eternity.
Following its premiere as Zane Lowe’s WORLD RECORD, ‘Asido’ is now available everywhere. It is accompanied by an animated lyric video written and directed by Megan and illustrated by Tallulah Fontaine, the creator of all the band’s artwork to date. Tallulah took videos of Megan walking and falling, then traced the movement to create the character frame by frame. In order to situate their meaning, Megan had her mother handwrite the lyrics in the video.

Today, Grimes reveals the new self-directed video for ‘California’ filmed in Los Angeles and Paris. The video features cameos from singer Megan James of Purity Ring, musician HANA, model Eric Cheng, musician Born Gold, and rising star Mac Boucher. In the last week, Grimes performed ‘Flesh Without Blood’ on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
The LA Times called Grimes’ Coachella set “thrillingly relentless” while Vice Noisey says she’s “poised to take over the whole world” and Rolling Stone called her a “mad scientist behind the control panel.” This spring, Grimes graced the covers of Teen Vogue and AnOther Magazine, was featured in Vanity Fair’s Disrupters portfolio and Elle’s Women in Music issue, and currently stars in the campaign for Stella McCartney’s Pop fragrance.
Grimes will perform at Lollapalooza, FYF, Moogfest and Hangout Music Festival and will open for Florence & The Machine throughout May.
Art Angels had prime placement on basically every 2015 End of Year list, with #1 spots from NME, Stereogum, Gorilla Vs. Bear and others. Jon Pareles of the NY Times called the album “a solo tour de force,” Stereogum said, “In 2015, nothing sounded better,” and Rolling Stone called it a “triumph.” Time Magazine named ‘Flesh Without Blood’ the #1 song of the year while iTunes named ‘Art Angels’ the #1 Indie Album of 2015 and it finished out the year at #1 most added on CMJ Radio. Within the past year, Grimes graced the covers of The FADER, Nylon, Dazed and Confused, NME, London’s ES Magazine, Flare and more.
Today, Purity Ring release their video for “Heartsigh” directed by Cecil Frena & Alex Fischer. The video explores the incredible futuristic live visuals the band have become known for. Impressively, the band designed the stage show/music video themselves–including the band’s costumes & Corin Roddick’s custom, state-of-the-art crystal mallet synth. In addition, the show/video incorporates an art installation called “Submergence” by the British art collective Squidsoup; which utilizes over 2500 immersive & interactive LED lights. The video also features choreography from L.A. based dancer Juliette Irons. Last weekend the band wrapped up an intense year of touring, playing to over 4000 people at a headlining show at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall.Continue reading →

PURITY RING ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ANOTHER ETERNITY – release date February 27th 2015
HEAR ‘Begin Again’:
Often mentioned as a “similar to” artist for NZ’s The Broods, Canadian duo Megan James and Corin Roddick, aka Purity Ring, return with a second album, entitled Another Eternity on February 27th.
Purity Ring’s breakthrough 2012 debut Shrines was in many ways a prescient suggestion of indie and popular music to come. The album earned the #1 spot on iTunes Electronic chart, Pitchfork ‘Best New Music’ laurels and praise from both sides of the Atlantic (New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, NME).
While Shrines was composed remotely between Halifax and Montreal, Another Eternity marks the first time Megan and Corin were able to create a record in the same room. The pair ventured home to the frozen industrial landscapes of their birthplace Edmonton, Alberta to document much of what would become the album. Megan and Corin recorded and produced their follow-up themselves, as always.
With Another Eternity Purity Ring trade the claustrophobic atmospheres of Shrines for wide-open expanses of sound. Between the brooding anthem ‘begin again’, the infectious ‘bodyache’ and the time-suspending ‘stillness in woe’, the emotional geography of Another Eternity is wider than ever: gloomy valleys and gleaming peaks in equal measure. Megan James’ vocals are in sharper focus as she details her lyrical universe of “sweat and dreams” populated by seacastles, rattling spines and weeping drawers. Corin Roddick’s gift for evocative melody remains intact but his percussive skills and use of space have been refined and honed.
stranger than earth

stillness in woe
Another Eternity will be released digitally, and on CD and white vinyl on February 27th, with pre-orders available from today. Pre-orders on iTunes will receive album tracks ‘begin again’ and ‘push pull’ instantly.
Purity Ring have shared their new track ‘Push Pull’ via 4AD.
Their debut album Shrines was released in 2012, and earned them Pitchfork’s Best New Music, the #1 spot on iTunes’ Electronic chart and praise from New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and more. The release was followed by a sold-out headlining world tour and festival performances at Coachella, Pitchfork, Bonnaroo and more.
In the past year the duo have collaborated with hip hop provocateur Danny Brown on his single ’25 Bucks’. Megan is featured in the video and also performed the song with Brown on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Purity Ring also featured on Jon Hopkins’ song ‘Breathe This Air’.
