Archive for the 'Zomby' CategoryNEWS: ZOMBY – DEDICATION OUT THIS WEEK!![]() Zomby’s new record Dedication is out today via 4AD / RHYTHMETHOD One of the most talented producers of a generation, Zomby is both a purist and perfectionist and is capable of negotiating skilfully between genres, be it jungle, dubstep, rave or garage. It’s been over two and a half years since Zomby released his debut album Where Were U In ‘92?, a rave record evoking that titular period, when Dreamscape, Fantazia and Universe flyers adorned bedroom walls. Returning from his hiatus with typical style, Dedication is both a dark and absorbing album that engulfs the listener, running between sparse electronics, techno hooks and minimal piano riffs. “This record is a dedication to someone much loved and missed”, says Zomby. Following a series of releases that switched from the melancholic to the menacing, anticipation for new Zomby material is high. At the end of last year, Zomby revealed the hauntingly beautiful new track, ‘Natalia’s Song’, appearing unannounced in a Burial and Kode9 mix for Radio 1. Latest track ‘Things Fall Apart’ is equally exciting; a dark and spiralling jam, featuring vocals from Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. Listen to snippets of the full album HERE
“A dubby maze of synthesizer arpeggios and old-school rave inspired beats” - Fader
“A dark and sinister jam that combines his earlier fixations for jungle with his new found
appreciation for dubstep” - Prettymuchamazing “Zomby’s proven that the fundamentals of a sound that peaked over 15 years ago can still be streamlined into the current zeitgeist. He’s gotten to the point where he can invoke old signifiers as something more than you-had-to-be-there nostalgia: all at once, Where Were U in ’92? is a history lesson, a depiction of a musical timeline that folds in on itself, and a revival that works because it approaches its subject with the idea that it simply evolved instead of died” - Pitchfork
