Sometime last year, I discovered that the original name for “The Wild Ones” (one of the great English-language ballads of the last 100 years or so) was “Ken.” I had an epiphany, I was physically struck by this information. In an attempt to hold on to this feeling, I decided to lift the original title of that song and use it for my own purposes. It’s unclear to me what that purpose is, or what the connection is. I was not thinking about Suede when making this record. I was thinking about the last few years of the Thatcher era. Those were the years when music first really came at me like a sickness, I had it bad. Maybe “The Wild Ones” speaks to that feeling, probably why Suede made no sense in America. To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Purity Ring’s debut album Shrines, Megan James and Corin Roddick have released a new song ‘Asido’. The track is a stand alone gift to their fans while the band continues to work on the follow up to their second album, another eternity.
Following its premiere as Zane Lowe’s WORLD RECORD, ‘Asido’ is now available everywhere. It is accompanied by an animated lyric video written and directed by Megan and illustrated by Tallulah Fontaine, the creator of all the band’s artwork to date. Tallulah took videos of Megan walking and falling, then traced the movement to create the character frame by frame. In order to situate their meaning, Megan had her mother handwrite the lyrics in the video.
Kane Strang has unveiled the official, video for “Silence Overgrown,” off new album, Two Hearts and No Brain, available nowon Dead Oceans.
Crafted from footage captured by Kane and his bandmates during their US and European tours earlier this year, the video for Silence Overgrown offers a glimpse of the tour life across the globe. On his self-made video, Kane says, “landing in New York ahead of our first overseas shows and walking around that night was hands down the most surreal moment of my life. I never even thought I’d visit America, let alone be there for my music and I’m so glad we managed to capture fragments of that and the rest of this crazy year on camera. This goes out to everyone who has come see us play or let us crash at their houses or bought the album. Thank you!!!”
