Today, Strand Of Oaks premieres the video for “Cry,” the confessional crux of their “rock ’n’ roll masterpiece” (Salon) ‘Hard Love.’ Directed by Brody Bernheisel, the video serves as an intimate portrait of Tim Showalter’s relationship with his wife Susan Showalter — rife with struggle and laughter, letdowns and reconciliation.

Says Sue: “The idea was to have us just interact naturally, but as the song went on, I got more and more emotional thinking about what we’ve been through, and the fact that the song is really my perspective on everything. I think it does a perfect job capturing our relationship in a pretty unfiltered way, good and bad, laughing and crying. After I saw it, it felt so real and moving that it had to be the video. It just made so much sense…the vulnerability of it all.”

Tim’s response: “Couldn’t have said it better myself.”

‘Hard Love’ has been deemed “a singular statement that’s among rock’s best of 2017 so far” (Entertainment Weekly). Stereogum says it’s “incredible,” adding that it “channels intimate battles into universal catharsis.” The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Strand Of Oaks “one of the leading lights of the Philadelphia rock renaissance.” Last week it made a strong opening on the Billboard charts, debuting at #5 Heatseekers and Top 10 on the Americana / Folk and Independent Album Charts.
