The National shared their latest track ‘Day I Die’ from their forthcoming album Sleep Well Beast. The video, which was directed by Casey Reas, compresses the frenetic energy of performing with the grind of touring. It’s a day in the life of The National.
Reas adds, “Graham MacIndoe captured eighteen time-lapse photo series during rehearsals at Le Centquatre in June 2017 in Paris. Hours of rehearsal are compressed into a few minutes. Over five thousand of these photographs were brought together to make the final video. I wrote custom software to collage multiple photographs together and to compile them into videos. A flickering colour layer abstracted from broadcast television signals augments the black and white footage. The images here are played back at 12fps, near the threshold of the persistence of vision.”
“Clown” Saturn Over Sunset Out September 8th On Jagjaguwar
“Sounding at times like early Perfume Genius, L.A. band Midnight Sister shows off a knack for blending orchestral pop and psychedelia…” – The FADER
“alluring and wonderfully timeless” – Gorilla vs. Bear
“Their art-pop would appeal to fans of Broadcast, influential ’60s pioneers such as The United States of America and The Free Design, and Charlie Hilton.” – Under The Radar
Midnight Sister continue their roll out of stunning visuals leading up to the release of their debut album, Saturn Over Sunset, due September 8th on Jagjaguwar. They’re proud to present the video for their new single, “Clown,” via Lenny Letter. “Clown” follows recent singles, “Daddy Long Legs,” “Blue Cigar” and “Leave You,” the latter two both receiving videos created by Midnight Sister’s Julianna Giraffe and her sister Nicky Giraffe. The sisters recently formed their own production house, Giraffe Studios LA, providing quite the stunning introduction for an exciting new band.
On September 22nd, METZ will release Strange Peace on Sub Pop / Rhythmethod, an emphatic but artful hammer swing to the status quo and their highly-anticipated third full-length album. Alex Edkins (guitar, vocals), Hayden Menzies (drums), and Chris Slorach (bass) recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, live off the floor to tape with Steve Albini.
The album includes ‘Drained Lake’, a relentless yet compact tumult that plays like a slightly slicker version of the trio’s signature sound and released today, ‘Mess of Wires’ – the latest and arguably greatest song to be released from METZ’s forthcoming album.
With ‘Turn Out the Lights,’ Baker returns to a much bigger stage, but with the same core of breathtaking vulnerability and resilience. From its opening moments — when her chiming, evocative melody is accompanied by swells of strings — ‘Turn Out the Lights’ throws open the doors to the world without sacrificing the intimacy that has become a hallmark of her songs.
KING KRULE Drops new single + video for ‘Czech One’
Overnight King Krule shared a video for ‘Czech One,’ the first new music to surface from Archy Marshall’s acclaimed project since 2013. Directed by Frank Lebon, the video features Archy alone in his thoughts but surrounded by hundreds of strangers on a red-eye flight — as he contemplates his past, present and future. The visuals are a Noir-esque reverie, echoing the song’s atmospheric-downtempo-lounge-jazz-dream-state, where Archy muses, “To when and where the stars were formed, that glance upon this night / lightyears to sit upon and paint us as we lie.”
‘Czech One’ will be available as the A-Side to a limited edition 7” coming out September 13th via True Panther Sounds/XL Recordings.
King Krule’s debut album, Six Feet Beneath the Moon was released on XL Recordings in 2013. A New Place 2 Drown, a collaborative project between Archy and his brother Jack, was released in 2015.
TESSA Kiwi electronic artist shares debut single ‘Wait’ (feat. KINGS) Out now!
Today kiwi electronic artist TESSA (aka. Tessa McDell) has shared her debut single ‘Wait’ – a rumbling, bass-heavy track featuring kiwi artist & producer KINGS, that premiered earlier this morning on George FM Days with General Lee. It is the first taste of the young artist’s debut record due for release later this year.
Produced and co-written with Kingdon Chapple-Wilson, ‘Wait’ is a strong slow burner carried by the rumbling bass of the sub and Tessa’s sweet and soulful vocals. Just wait for the drop.
Over the past few months, Tessa has appeared on our radars as one half of kiwi synthpop duo, Dunes (who have recently shared their debut single ‘Horses’). Her solo material represents the grittier, darker electronic elements she brings to the duo’s striking sound.
