The Pinheads, the seven wayward children of Wollongong’s thriving rock ‘n’ roll scene, reveal the details of their long-awaited, self-titled debut album, set for release on Friday May 12 on Farmer & the Owl via Rhythmethod.

Alongside this announce, the South Coast hellraisers share a string of tour dates – including three in New Zealands North Island accompanied by Ghost Wave – and an energetic new track “Gimme Back”, which comes with an outlandish visual treatment complete with infernal scenes reminiscent of 1973 horror classic The Wicker Man.

The Pinheads are Jez & Luke Player, Al Webster, Tanya Avanus, Tex Crick, Chris Zanko & James Kates – 7 mates, who over games of cheap bowling and a shared music taste, accidentally formed a band in the latter half of 2013. Each got hold of what they refer to as “an assortment of shitty instruments and strange recording equipment”, a move which eventually culminated in their 2015 EP, I Wanna Be A Girl. Since that time, The Pinheads have established themselves as an enigma for their ability to imagine a world more surreal than the one in which we exist and bring it to their music and art – known for their DIY ethos, weird and wonderful handcrafted film clips and distinctive artwork.

This past year has seen The Pinheads gain notoriety as a band with one of the most electrifying live shows on this side of the planet, including selling out shows in Sydney and Newcastle on a joint headline tour with Drunk Mums, a support of the UK’s Fat White Family, and a spot on the Yours & Owls Festival.

The coming months are set to prove that holding back has never been The Pinheads forte, with the album release in May coinciding with shows supporting The Murlocs and Bleeding Knees Club, followed by a headline tour in June which will see them menace the cities of Australia before jumping the ditch to shock the good people of New Zealand.
