Wall Street Journal
“Highly strung and instinctively contrary, but also deeply harmonically musical, Radiohead somehow finds a space between the sinister and the beautiful, the tense and the meditative. They remain masters of musical dichotomy.” The Telegraph

Archive for March, 2011News: Congratulations to Miriam Clancy!Huge congrats to the fantastic Miriam Clancy for landing an APRA NZ 2011 Professional Development Award!
Pop Contemporary: Miriam Clancy (www.miriamclancy.com) “…Miriam works within a hard-to-define genre of music and is an accomplished songwriter. She is ‘magic’ and has the potential to be a true international talent…” Hailing from Foxton, indie songstress Miriam Clancy has been quietly winning fans after unanimous critical acclaim for her debut release Lucky One. But it’s her second album Magnetic that lit a fire beneath her underground following, gaining highly coveted 4 & 5 star reviews and elbowing its way into a number of ‘Best Music Of The Year’ lists by industry critics. Currently working towards her 3rd record and having been recently hand-picked to work with renowned international composer Mario Grigorov (‘Precious’) on a NZ film soundtrack, Miriam Clancy has plans afoot and is indeed one to watch. The PDA win will allow Miriam to travel to the USA. This will include collaborating with Chicago-based John Sirratt from Grammy award winning band Wilco, and his own project The Autumn Defense. Miriam has also been offered the opportunity to work with a Chicago organisation called Art Work Projects, who work in conjunction with established humanitarian and human-rights advocacy organisations. The project will involve creating new works for the organisation, co-writing with Mario Grigorov. Archive for March, 2011News: Little Bushman Album + Tour Announce
Aotearoa’s magnanimous psych-rock-blues quartet, Little Bushman, announce the release of their new album Te Oranga along with bevy of tour dates.
On the 4th of April 2011, Little Bushman will release Te Oranga their long anticipated follow up to 2007’s Pendulum. This 3rd studio album was written and recorded over the last 2 years at Warren Maxwell’s own recording facilities, STONEFEATHER studios. Venturing at times into the shadows, then veering off up into the cosmos, it is sure to satisfy all who ingest. From a delta-esque hoedown recitation of the cycle of life, to an alternative cosmic take on Creation – Te Oranga is their tour de force. The sheer diversity between the songs themselves allows for a meandering dynamic, which promises to make for great listening. “Te Oranga is mostly a celebration of the warmer side of humanity” says band front man Warren Maxwell. To celebrate the release of Te Oranga, Little Bushman are keyed up to take to the road for 4 stellar shows, which will be their first solo performances in well over a year. Little Bushman is proud to perform them first, right here in Aotearoa. Soon after, they’re heading to Australia for a handful of shows – including the revered Byron Bay Bluesfest. Warren Maxwell says “We’re really looking forward to getting on the road and sharing our new album with fans & whanau. We’re taking our show to the next level to bring a quality psychedelic, sonic & visual experience – our audience deserve quality and we hope to oblige!” With Nudge their special guests for all shows, a Wellington trio who recently supported The Black Seeds & Fly My Pretties nationally with their stomping drums, soaring guitar and savage organ mania, this will be a true kaleidoscopic experience!

Archive for March, 2011News: Thurston Moore Album Announcement
Our friends at Matador just gave us this merry news…. On Tuesday May 24 (May 23 in New Zealand)*, Matador will be releasing ‘Demolished Thoughts’, the 4th solo album from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore (5th if you count 1998?s ‘Root’) and the first to be produced by Beck Hansen. Recorded in Los Angeles and Northampton, MA this past autumn & winter, with a title culled from The Faith’s “It’s Time”, ‘Demolished Thoughts’ is an equally beautiful and brooding work ; while there’s more than a few tonal similarities to some of your favorite Moore compositions from years past, the execution this time around is nothing short of staggering. No disrespect to 1995?s ‘Psychic Hearts’ or 2007?s ‘Trees Outside The Academy’ is intended on our part when we promise ‘Demolished Thoughts’ burnishes Thurston’s rep as a classic songwriter in ways we never anticipated when this album was first being talked about last year.
(photo by Shawn Brackbill) In addition to Moore’s guitars and vocals, other players include violinist Samara Lubelski (she of prior Moore recordings and touring, her own solo works, Metal Mountains, Hall Of Fame, Tower Recordings, Metabolismus, etc.), harpist Mary Lattimore (also heard on Kurt Vile’s latest), bassist Bram Inscore, drummer Joey Waronker and Beck. Thurston Moore – Demolished Thoughts out on Matador / Rhythmethod May 23rd! |
