Five-piece 1000 Rabbits (FKA Rabbitfoot) release their debut EP Are we friends yet?, a six-track release that captures the band’s first two years in motion. Featuring recent singles Virgin Soil’ and ‘Rubik’s Cube’, the EP arrives digitally and as 12” physical record via Young (Sampha, The xx, Robyn, FKA twigs, Kamasi Washington) as a snapshot of a band defining themselves in real time. The project arrives alongside a brand new video directed by South London artist, Ché Deedigan, capturing it’s energy: a band in motion, evolving, exploring. Watch it now below

1000 Rabbits – ‘Bear Hunt’

Written across living rooms, rehearsal spaces, and stages over the course of two years, Are we friends yet? captures a formative chapter: six tracks shaped by time, space, and the energy of the people in the room. Some tracks date back to their earliest days, others are more recent, but together they form a vivid introduction to the band’s world. Each track has been molded through live performance, evolving night after night.

The EP’s title – Are we friends yet? – comes from a defining moment that has emerged in their live show; a question posed by River during the closing track ‘Spring Cleaning’, the final song of both the record and every set they play. It’s a moment that captures both the warmth and vulnerability at the heart of the band.

As they put it themselves, “These are 6 songs that we feel capture our first two years as a band. They are, in some ways, us putting our heart on our sleeve, and saying, ‘this is us. ‘this is what we want to say.’ We’re going to change and develop. These are just beginnings. Thanks to everyone who came and watched us develop these tunes over the past couple of years. You are responsible for these being our favourites; they wouldn’t exist without you. ”

About 1000 Rabbits

1000 Rabbits is an off-kilter art-pop picnic who tell stories through human sounds, both intimate and extroverted. Grounded by playful bass synthesiser, expressive vocal lines weave through a colourful tapestry of violin, guitar and drums, creating something immediate and immersive: rhythm-forward, emotionally raw, and built for bodies in motion. Comprising Laura (violin), Liv (synthesiser), Paolo (guitar), River (vocals) and Luke (drums), the five-piece cut their teeth across London’s independent venues, becoming regulars at The Windmill in Brixton where their high-voltage performances earned them a reputation as local “powerhouses”. Four of the band first met as teenagers, making music together through a music club in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, and later met Paolo after moving to London to study.

RECENT PRAISE OF 1000 RABBITS:

“Pushing back against the prevalent trend of maximalism in the UK underground, 1000 Rabbit show real restraint, and a sense of exacting creativity.” – CLASH

“Bathing in their innate classical abilities and led fantastically by their rhythm-heavy storytelling, the first offering from Suffolk quintet, 1000 Rabbits (previously known as Rabbitfoot) instantly captures one’s imagination.” – So Young Magazine

“New kids on the indie block 1000 Rabbits follow up last month’s debut single, “Virgin’s Soil”, with an equally mind-blowing sophomore cut “, Rubik’s Cube”. Sounding almost as if Black Country, New Road, and Jockstrap found a middle ground, the single is idiosyncratic, intricate, and features one of the best vocal performances you’ll have heard this year.” – Wonderland

““As debut singles go, “Virgin Soil” is quite an entrance. 1000 Rabbits have created an epic in miniature, taking us through a wide range of emotions and dynamics in three and a half minutes. “ – Brooklyn Vegan

“The music once again makes fine use of subtly percussive guitar, eerie violin, and loud-quiet-loud dynamics. River, the vocalist, gets to let it rip, and by the end the band’s carefully constructed drama has descended into chaos. Imagine the current version of Black Country, New Road but a bit more feral and a lot less twee.” – Stereogum
