Tahitian/Parisian 5-piece outfit 15 15 (FKA Quinze Quinze) are making music like no one else, conjuring up epic soundscapes coated in Moombahton and club-ready jaunts of the underground that’s been lauded by Crack, Dazed, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, NPR, and received a personal invitation by Benji Bto his prestigious Maida Vale‘ End Of Year Special’, alongside George Riley, Liv.e and Ojerime.

“an intoxicating journey that doesn’t conform to any rules” – Crack Magazine

“The vibe is dark and introspective.” – Bandcamp

“A dark twist on Tahiti’s ori deck dance music.” – Resident Advisor

“ceremonial take on dance music” – CLASH

“bridges Polynesian music past and present.” – NPR

UPCOMING EP ATAHEVA OUT 3RD NOVEMBER

Following their mesmerising slice of r&b ‘Perfect Heaven’, 15 15 have today shared their expansive juggernaut That Boom’, which morphs in-and-out of r&b and alté rhythms with leader Tsi Min’s spellbinding vocals effortlessly gliding on top. Kicking off with a sample that evokes the sound of a Geiger counter, the tool used to measure radioactive sources, along with the tolling of a death knell, the band shares, “We imagined people caught in a storm after the collision between two worlds. Everybody prayed when they heard That Boom…One of them questions the situation and explores the depths of their thoughts, while the others wait for their impending death and regret having to leave so soon. Time stands still for them at that moment.”

Their EP ATAHEVA is an extension of this but also steps into newer, bolder, terrain – both musically and thematically. “ATAHEVA means the cloud of mourning in Tahitian,” they say. ATAHEVA is also an imaginary ritual from the band’s own mythology. “It recalls the Polynesian funeral rite known as Heva Tupapa’u (weeping for the corpse),” they say. “This is a ceremony in which a member of the family of the deceased puts on a very singular costume as the chief mourner (heva). This imposing costume covers the whole body of the person, producing an effect of magnificence but at the same time evoked fear and horror.”
