“LSDXOXO is a globetrotter, taking pieces of European dance scenes, American house staples and African elements, amongst a slew of other influences, to create some of the most compelling dance music of the past decade” – Paste Magazine
Today Philly-born, NYC-bred and Berlin-based DJ, producer and performer LSDXOXO releases his much-anticipated debut EP Dedicated 2 Disrespect, out now on XL Recordings. An illustrious portrait of the intersections between rave, techno, house, gender, sexuality, camp and race, Dedicated 2 Disrespect is a project that oscillates between the politics and the party so effortlessly bold and unapologetic. Following previously released singles “Sick Bitch” and “The Devil” today LSDXOXO has shared a new lyric video for the EP’s closing track “Mutant Exotic” which you can watch HERE. Announced earlier this week, LSDXOXOwill return to the party this Friday, May 14th with a special Floorgasm event in collaboration with Club Quarantine(full details below).
“Society tends to treat queerness as a threat,” says LSDXOXO, “so “Mutant Exotic” gaily touches on that narrative.” An amalgamation of the tensions this record wholly presents, “I could be a devil/but maybe I’m a goddess,” sings LSDXOXO, “Mutant Exotic” defines the duality explored on LSDXOXO’s latest project. While it’s clearly poking fun on people’s perceptions of queerness, that still cannot be divorced from the material challenges queer communities face, and more specifically queer Black communities.
DEDICATED 2 DISRESPECT is LSDXOXO’s first EP with both original compositions and vocals; the follow-up to his 2020 mixtape Waiting 2 Exhale. An artist from Philadelphia who made a name for himself in New York City as a DJ and producer, LSDXOXO quickly became an essential figure at GHE20GOTH1K before taking his talents global. He is known for destroying dance floors across the underground club scene with his energetic DJ sets, amassing attention for the way that he manipulates mainstream sounds by craftily layering pop tracks and vocal samples between Baltimore club, ghetto house, hardcore, electro and techno. He’s also flourished in his production work, having recently been tapped by SHYGIRL and VTSS for a remix and collaborative single. Now residing in Berlin and running his own club night Floorgasm, LSDXOXO is synonymous with the new wave of techno artists reclaiming Black queer spaces and injecting some much-needed fun and camp into the genre.
