Accompanying the news of KicK iii’s release, Arca is sharing a new music video for album track ‘Electra Rex,’ directed by Carlota Guerrero and shot in September 2020, featuring Arca and friends performing in front of the Plaça dels Àngels in Barcelona.
The unveiling of the KICK series continues today as Arca shares the details of the third album in the anthology: KicK iii, due out December 3 on XL Recordings. Featuring the previously released single “Incendio,” KicK iii finds ecstasy in turbulence, as Arca returns to the mutant club music of her breakthrough early work.
If KiCk i is a multidimensional self-portrait that held all of Arca’s many identities, KICK ii see’s her referencing the reggaetón that colored her youth in Venezuela, balancing structure and chaos to create her most accessible work yet, without sacrificing any of her uncompromising experimentation. While KicK iii see’s her returning to the club nights that shaped her early adult-hood where Arca was born: the surrealist DJ, warping dance music structures to fit her singular vision—relentless rhythms to drive listeners into uncharted states of euphoria, anthems for the basement-dark queer clubs of our cyberpunk near-future.
