Australian heavy band DREGG are back with new single ‘Dr. Fauci Didn’t Kill Himself,’ out today. The mosh-pit ready track channels the band’s collective resentment and frustrations of the last two years of covid restrictions. Through aggressive breakdowns, urgent guitar riffs and unrelenting drums, DREGG have unleashed the anarchic anthem of our time. Accompanied is a lively music video showing the band performing in a chaotic living room, losing their minds while being locked indoors.
Attacking the mic with rap influenced cadence, vocalist Christopher Mackertich uses provocative to express their grievances over a doomsday-sounding breakdown:
“In the cradle of science we find ourselves just begging for a way out / And off the rails inside of our homes with no one to throw all the blame at.”
On the inspiration behind the track, the band explains:
“This is a song we wrote about the ridiculously long lockdowns in Melbourne. Our city spent over 260 days locked inside of our homes and this took an immense toll on peoples careers, finances, mental and physical health. The days at home felt like a prison for the band, but a prison that had everything you I ever wanted. Endless tv shows, video games, food to your door, online shopping. While it felt like the world was ending around us we sat in the comfort of our homes begging for a way out.” – DREGG
DREGG make powerfully energetic music driven by themes of fierce individualism, with a sound that hungrily consumes metal, hardcore, and rap, only to heave it back up in a colorful rainbow of bombastic brutality and iconoclastic absurdity. While there are taking creative cues taken from hyper-charged metal outfits from the past, DREGG skew neither far left nor far right on the political spectrum. Instead, they occupy a firm place outside of the argument, one of satire and critique.
DREGG is vocalist – Christopher Mackertich, guitarist – Jordan McQuitty, guitarist – Sam Yates, bassist – Aiden Zovic, drums – Caleb Brew.
