Horsegirl has had a stellar year. Versions of Modern Performance – out now on Matador – “is such a realised debut that it may itself influence a later generation down the road” (Ringer, Best Albums of 2022 So Far). It received glowing praise from The New York Times, Vulture, Rolling Stone, NYLON, AV Club, Stereogum, Bandcamp, and plenty more.
Following their first-ever North American tour which included a sold-out hometown show at Thalia Halland an opening slot for Pavement in New York, the Chicago-based trio now release their cover of Minutemen’s ‘History Lesson Part 2.’ While only available via a 7” in the past, the song is now available digitally for the first time today.
“‘History Lesson Part 2’ has always been a punk manifesto for us,” says Horsegirl. “It was an unusual pick to cover considering the lyrics are so specific to Minutemen, but we thought there was something appealing too about recording a ‘History Lesson’ that doesn’t actually give you any history on us.”

Praise for Horsegirl
“Enveloping and inescapable, Versions of Modern Performance’ is the kind of album that to lose yourself in time and time again” – Dork ★★★★
“Their no-wave influenced immediacy and noise-driven invention push Horsegirl’s offbeat post-punk firmly ahead of the pack.” – Mojo ★★★★
“Horsegirl synthesize post-punk, indie rock and pop hallmarks into a current, vital product.” – Billboard
“Chicago trio Horsegirl are already cantering to the front of the race armed with a forthcoming debut – June’s Versions Of Moidern Performance – that spins an intoxicating shoegaze-indebted web. Full of reverb-soaked guitar bends and ghostly vocals courtesy of singers Nora Cheng and Penelope Lowesnetin, they’re not rewriting the rulebook but providing a clever, enticing new chapter with it” – DIY
“Horsegirl’s album release show feels like a celebration of the Chicago scene they’ve come up in over the past several years.” – Rolling Stone
“If anyone can kickstart a youth rock revolution, it feels like Horsegirl can.” – NME (Next Noise)
