If you’ve ever survived a lolly-scramble bloodbath, learned empathy from a giraffe in a van, or languished on hold listening to slightly-off-key local classics, you’re about to feel right at home. A Few More Slices of Heaven, the latest comic collection from illustrator, satirist, and musician Daniel Vernon (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa), is set to deliver seven new warm, witty, and wildly Kiwi slices of life.
Building on the beloved humour of his viral comics, Vernon’s new collection dives deeper into the everyday absurdities and iconic institutions that shape the Aotearoa experience. From demon-hunting Dobbyn’s and beloved bogans to pint-sized primary school private eyes, this book is a love letter to the shared moments – ridiculous, mundane, and magical – that unite us.
“This collection is really about celebrating the stories we tell each other as New Zealanders – those little cultural touchstones that make us laugh because they’re so deeply familiar,” says Vernon. “If you’ve ever argued about the correct way to eat a mince pie or discovered life’s meaning while stuck in traffic on State Highway 1, this one’s for you.”

About the Author
Daniel Vernon (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa) is the creator behind the hugely popular yeehawtheboys comics, known across social media for their sharp political satire, warm humour, and affectionate digs at Aotearoa’s quirks, culture, and institutions.
Vernon is also the frontman of DARTZ – an Aotearoa Music Award-winning post-pub rock band whose chart-topping releases are similarly rooted in humour and political satire. His work across both mediums is united by a distinctly Kiwi comedic voice and a deep love for the communities that inspire it.
