The Band From Wellington, New Zealand is back: DARTZ have today announced their second full-length album Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One, to be released on Friday 1 March 2024 via Flying Nun Records.

The band have also shared new single ‘Learning To Drive With Dad’ — a classic DARTZ tale of a driving lesson gone sideways and pubways, inspired by upbringings in small-town New Zealand. ‘Learning To Drive With Dad’ is accompanied by a new music video directed by Ezra Simons, shot on 16mm film in DARTZ frontman Danz’s real-life hometown. The song & video are packed with DARTZ’s signature humour and cheeky storytelling spirit, with high-octane guitar lines and a pub-anthem chorus to boot.

Made with the support of New Zealand On Air

DARTZ comprises Danz (vocals), Clark Mathews (bass), Crispy (guitar), and Rollyz (drums) – four best mates from Wellington who have charmed listeners with their scrappy and relatable brand of garage rock, and won an army of diehard fans across New Zealand for their energetic live performances and infectious on-stage chemistry. Those same fans took DARTZ’s debut album The Band From Wellington, New Zealand to number 1 on the NZ Album Charts upon release in 2022.

Recorded with producer James Goldsmith in Wellington, DARTZ’s follow-up effort Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One showcases the band’s hard-rocking and party-starting energy, channelled into ten of their most anthemic tracks yet.

Over a replayable 29 minutes, Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One sees DARTZ effortlessly weave between a wide range of topics, offering up small-town New Zealand parables (‘Bush Weed’, ‘Learning To Drive With Dad’) alongside jabs at classic DARTZ villains like landlords and property developers (‘Flat Inspection’, ‘Paradise’) and of course, advice on the pressing issue of when to crack open a beer (when you’ve ‘Earned The Thirst’ and ‘Golden Hour’ hits on a ‘Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One’?).

Available for pre-order now on vinyl and CD, Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One will also be released on two limited edition vinyl variants – a green/orange marbled ‘Bush Weed’ LP with alternate cover art, and a dirt-cheap ‘Cost of Living’ LP, passing the savings on to the fans.

“We are stoked to be able to save the fans some of their hard earned cash with a cost of living version of the album,” says DARTZ vocalist and artist Danz.
