EVERYTHING IS RECORDED Announces New Album FRIDAY FOREVER

Everything Is Recorded, the collaborative artist project helmed by British musician and producer Richard Russell, today announces details of its highly anticipated second album.

Titled FRIDAY FOREVER, the album will be released on 3rd April 2020 via XL Recordings/Rhythmethod and is an investigation into the universality of the Friday night experience.

It’s the follow up to his eponymous debut album which was released in 2018 and went on to be nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and hailed by Q Magazine as “a masterclass in the art of collaboration”.

As with the first album, almost all of FRIDAY FOREVER was recorded in Russell’s Copper House studio in London. It features an instinctively curated set of collaborators of all ages and backgrounds including South London’s FLOHIO and James Massiah, the Manchester rapper Aitch, Trinidad-born Berwyn, Ireland’s Maria Somerville and Kean Kavanagh, Staten Island rap god Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan, longterm EIR collaborator Infinite Coles, west London’s A.K. Paul and a rare contribution from the anarcho-punk legend Penny Rimbaud of Crass. Together, they tell a story through music that starts at 9:46PM on a Friday night and finishes at 11:59AM the next morning.

To celebrate news of the new album, Everything Is Recorded today releases a third song from FRIDAY FOREVER. Titled ‘03:15AM/CAVIAR’, it sees our focus shifting Stateside as we find Ghostface Killah and Infinite Colesjoining forces on the track to represent two eras of celebrated New York musical talent. Journeying deeper into the night, it builds on the narrative of first single, ’10:51PM/THE NIGHT’ which features Berwynand Maria Somerville and is built around a sample from Smog’s ‘Hollow Out Cakes’, the latest in a line of musical tributes to Bill Callahan from Russell.

Musically and lyrically, it epitomised the pure potentiality of a night out yet to happen, stepping into the unknown. Meanwhile, second single 12:12AM/PATIENTS (FUCKING UP A FRIDAY)’ saw Aitch, Infinite and Russell –a Mancunian, New Yorker and Londoner–all tapping into the same energy. The throbbing 909 captures Russell’s days of discovering Chicago house, the wavy and intoxicated lyrics capture Aitch’srowdy spirit, and Infinite’s honeyed vocals lend it a near-religious feel that the iconic NY nightclubs used to exude. Together, these first three singles showcase a frenetic, hedonistic side of the album, one which gives way to something more soulful, woozier and more spiritual as the record (and the night) progresses.

Meanwhile, Richard Russell recently announced that he will publish his autobiography. Liberation Through Hearing: Rap, Rave and the Rise of XL Recordings will be released on 2nd April via White Rabbit.
