Horsegirl emerged as one of 2022’s most hotly tipped and critically acclaimed new bands with the release of their debut LP Versions of Modern Performance. The album received praise from The New York Times, The Guardian, Crack, MOJO, The Observer, NME, Dork, DIY and others, saw their first UK tour, including four sold out London shows, a debut performance at Glastonbury and their single ‘Option 8’ playlisted at BBC 6 music and here in Aotearoa/NZ ; across the SRN network and RNZ!

Today, in conjunction Versions of Modern Performance being announced as one of Rough Trade’s (the UK store) Top 20 Albums of the Year, the Chicago-based trio release ‘Rough Trade Super-Disc’, a collection of demos and outtakes from taken from early rehearsals and recorded entirely via phone voice memos. Rough, ready and unadorned, the demos provide a captivating fly-on-the-wall vantage point to the band’s music making process. The tracklist includes an early version of “World Of Pots And Pans” with the band members swapping their respective instruments (“Emma Swapped Instruments”), an 8-minute choral keyboard improv (“Philip Glass”), a feedback-drenched performance of “Anti-glory” (“Anti-glory = Early Demo”), a guitar rendition of Kraftwerk’s “Computer Love”, and a previously unheard acoustic song called “This Is A Song About My Ex (2018)”. The songs are available physically as a Rough Trade exclusive one-sided 12” alongside the album and digitally on all streaming platforms.
