Ibeyi
are back with a beautiful music video for their song ‘Transmission/Michaelion’ that has today premiered in Lenny Letter.  The song is the masterful centerpiece of the twins critically-acclaimed sophomore album Ash (out now on XL Recordings) and features Meshell Ndegeocello on bass, a sample from the audiobook ‘Citizen: An American Lyric’ by Claudia Rankine plus an excerpt from The Diary of Frida Kahlo read by the twins mother Maya Dagnino. On the song, Lisa-Kaindé explains, “This song is the heat of our album. Transmitting is one of the reasons why we write songs.”

In honor of that sentiment, the music video for the song which was directed by Jamie-James Medina and Fons Schiedon, carries the viewer through the fabled story of the Tree of Ténéré.

In other recent news Ibeyi recently collaborated with Brazilian rapper Emicida for single ‘Hacia El Amor’ and were featured in the third season of PBS’s program Articulate.

Watch the official video for ‘Hacia El Amor’ below.

Ibeyi’s sophomore album Ash was notably included in Pitchfork, NPR, Rolling Stone, FADER, Esquire, Timeout and Remezcla’s “Best of 2017” year-end lists. With Pitchfork explaining, “To hear Ibeyi’s second LP, Ash—minimalistic arrangements of modern jazz, soul, and hip-hop elegantly woven with West African rhythms—is to receive energy carrying the weight of history….Its very existence is proof of a culture that refused to be suppressed, and its beauty a testament to the pain that made it possible.”
