Pop songwriter and beatmaker, Sam Cullen, surprises us with a brand new Wes Anderson-inspired visual for his groovy tune ‘Shut the Door’.

‘Shut the Door’ is an ode to finding someone to share the dancefloor with. If it all fails LET LOOSE. DANCE WITH YOURSELF! The video presents a dreamy nod to 70’s decor and outfits and features Cullen‘s grandparents! Watch the video below.

Having played upwards of 60 gigs across New Zealand in 2018, Sam Cullen is quickly establishing himself as one of the country’s hardest working young performers. As a multi-faceted artist, he has amassed experience in songwriting, jazz bands, solo performances and onstage professionalism coupled with an unassuming manner and determination second to none

Artistically, his alternative pop sound focusses on emotional intensity combining powerful guitar based hooks with elements of dance music creating a sound fit for any emotionally charged party goer. Family road trips saw the influences of Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones and James Taylor ingrained inSam from a young age while Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and .The 1975 fill the void today. His highly energetic live act is what he enjoys most, making use of drum pads, synthesisers, guitars and vocals with the flair of Bowie and intimacy of Sheeran.

Sam placed 3rd in New Zealand’s Smokefree Rockquest competition in 2018 out of over 800 acts while having been named Southland’s Junior Entertainer of the Year in 2017. He performed at the NZ Parliament (Beehive) in August 2018 and is also on the bill to play at Cromwell’s highly anticipated River Range Music Festival in 2019.

Sam’s eclectic new single ‘Shut The Door’ is a funky combination of dance components and songwriting prowess – a refreshing addition to the New Zealand music scene.
