Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Seventeen,’ off Remind Me Tomorrow, has become one of 2019’s most praised songs live and on record. The Obamas even selected it for their esteemed Spotify Summer Playlist. Today, she presents ‘Seventeen feat. Norah Jones,’ an Amazon Original song available only on Amazon Music, and Departure, a short film that provides an exclusive look at Van Etten’s final days living in New York City. Additionally, she announces her Austin City Limits TV debut. Fans will be able to watch a live stream of the Season 45 taping next Monday, September 30th here.

Directed by Josh Goleman for Amazon Music, Departure documents an intimate recording session with Jones, taking place on Van Etten’s last day in the city. In the film, the two commit to tape a striking re-imagined version of “Seventeen” following an explosive live performance at Van Etten’s sold out show at Webster Hall on May 4, 2019, her final headlining show as a New Yorker. Departure also shows Van Etten packing up her studio and thoughtfully recounting how the city shaped her, while sharing a glimpse at her early days in New York through archival footage.

I’m a fan of Sharon as a person and an artist, so I was more than excited to finally get to sing together. I loved her idea to do the song in a different way,” says Jones. “It felt really great to be in the studio together, I hope we get to sing more.  Singing with her and watching her at the show was breathtaking, she’s a true rock star.”

Van Etten has had an incredible 2019 since the release of Remind Me Tomorrow. She kicked off the year playing Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and sold out her North American and European headline tour. Most recently, she’s supported Bon Iver on the west coast, performed at the Grammy Museum, and taped her second Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music (this time with a full band!). Additionally, Van Etten collaborated with Jeff Goldblum on “Let’s Face The Music and Dance and contributed to the Wilco Covered compilation for Uncut. Remind Me Tomorrow continues to garner glowing praise: it’s featured prominently in mid-year lists by Billboard, Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Stereogum, Exclaim!, Paste, The Guardian, Thrillist, and more, and is a nominee for the Q Magazine Award of Best Album of 2019.
