Midnight Sister release new single/video ‘Satellite’ off new album out Jan 15

Midnight Sister, the shapeshifting, multi-disciplinary duo of Los Angeles artists Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian, are readying their sophomore full-length, Painting The Roses, for this Friday Jan 15 on Jagjaguwar. Simply put, this is a MOVIE.

But Friday can’t come soon enough! So, behold ‘Satellite‘, the latest in a string of videos sprung from Midnight Sister’s imagination. A sultryand sauntering groove sets the tone early, double- downed by Giraffe’s nonchalant delivery. Like swimming in a pool filled with funhouse mirrors, Giraffe warps and ripples, bends and multiplies, creating a world of illusion.

Giraffe had this to say about ‘Satellite”, “Satellite explores delusion and the way memory is influenced by perception. The video, shot through a funhouse mirror, finds clarity by embracing distortion.”

Both Giraffe and Balouzian bring their own unique talents and practices to Midnight Sister. Giraffe is a designer who regularly constructs the costumes not only for the group’s videos, as seen in ‘Doctor Says‘, but also independently for other artists and campaigns. For his part, Balouzian was responsible for scoring the recent documentary Feels Good Man, a tale exploring the transformation of Pepe the Frog from a college joke to a far-right icon, and is also part of the LA group Gabriels.

But in Midnight Sister, Giraffe and Balouzian combine to create a two-piece cinematic orchestra synthesizing the past, present and future in a colorful and whimsical vision all of their own.
