Directed by Bradley Gray, the “A Burning Hill” video beautifully captures the intimacy of Puberty 2 following previous singles, “Your Best American Girl” and “Happy.” It’s where Mitski “opts out of the rigged game altogether . . . a glowing ember of acoustic fingerpicking and a subtle choral bed . . . She decides to love ‘the littler things.’ It sounds like giving up, but she’s taking control, robbing her emotions of the power to capsize her wellbeing” (NPR Music).
“The director and I spent a weekend just driving around New York and Pennsylvania while the camera kept running, and most of the time I’d forget I was being filmed. It felt like a vacation, but it was also quite emotional, as I was thinking about the song and what it means to me now while jumping in rivers and driving down dirt lanes.” — Mitski
