OLIVER SIM
Short film Hideous to debut at Cannes Film Festival
Selected for special screening during Semaine de la Critique

‘Hideous,’ a new short film from Oliver Sim—best known for his work as songwriter, bassist and vocalist of The xx—and acclaimed French director Yann Gonzalez (Knife + Heart), has been selected for a special screening during the Semaine de la Critique at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film will make its global premiere with the screening.

“‘Hideous’—a horror film from the big heart and perverted imagination of Mr. Yann Gonzalez,” says Sim. “Starring yours truly, Fehinti Balogun, Jimmy Somerville, Jamie xx, Bimini and more. I’m trying to find a creative way to say what a dream come true making this film was but it was exactly that, a dream come true. Horror has been a passion of mine since I was a kid and now my nightmares have come to life in this film. Featuring a selection of new songs I’ve been making, I’m dying for you to see it. A massive thank you to Semaine de la Critique for selecting the film to premiere this May at Cannes Film Festival. What a BLOODY thrill!”

Sim’s first ever solo singles, the Jamie xx-produced tracks “Romance With A Memory” and “Fruit,” are out now via Young. Both songs will feature on a forthcoming limited edition vinyl 12” available only via Oliver’s webstore and Young Store. Get it here.

Futhermore, Sim will play his debut solo shows next month with very special, intimate dates in London, Paris, Berlin, New York—May 15 at Bowery Ballroom, and Los Angeles—May 17 at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever. For more information, please visit oliversim.ffm.to/tour.

Sim, born and raised in London, has been a member of The xx since its inception in 2005. After the success of their 2017 LP I See You, the band’s three members made a conscious decision to take some time to themselves. After a period of rest and reflection, and at the encouragement of friends, Sim began to work on solo material. Taking inspiration from his love of horror films and his own life, Sim put together a handful of demos and brought them to bandmate Jamie xx to flesh out. More music from Sim is imminent.
