Out digitally June 9, Darkside’s Live at Spiral House is a loose and playful collection of jams culled from weeks of rehearsals in Los Angeles last summer. Watch a live performance of “Heart Jam” HERE and a short documenting the band’s rehearsals HERE.

Joined by drummer and longtime collaborator Tlacael Esparza, the band took residence rehearsing and jamming after an 8-year hiatus. Jaar says: “When we decided to get the band back together with Tlac, we knew we needed a space where we could explore what that meant. After a couple of months of rehearsals, we started inviting friends and family to the space and many of these recordings share the fun and cozy spirit of that time.” Harrington adds: “I probably played every Jerry Garcia riff I know in every key over the course of Spiral House.  You’d be surprised how good China Cat Sunflower sounds on ‘Narrow Road’!” Jed DeMoss – the artist and photographer behind both DARKSIDE album covers – documented the summer spent at Spiral House, making the sound recordings on this collection, alongside artist and videographer Will Carrà. They both collaborated on this video, which shows the band setting up Spiral House and rehearsing.

The band is currently on tour in Europe. Follow the band members Telegraph Channel: DARKSIDE DISPATCH

Label: XL RECORDINGS

Written from 2020 to 2022, between London and Liverpool, Space Heavy took shape over the course of commutes between the two cities where Archy Marshall was splitting his time. Befitting an album quite literally written on the commute between the two places he called home, Archy found himself fascinated by the notion of “the space between” – the space haunted by dreams of love, touching a narrative of lost connection, losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe. Once written by Archy, the music was developed by frequent collaborator and producer Dilip Harris and long-time band mates Ignacio Salvadores (Saxophonist), George Bass (Drummer), James Wilson (Bass Guitarist) and Jack Towell (Guitarist).

The result is a 15-track full-length by the musical polymath that inhabits the deepest reaches of the subterranean sonic world that Archy has constructed over the course of his career as King Krule. In it you hear a generational artist stepping into the height of their artistic powers – the auteurism apparent on his debut 6 Feet Beneath The Moon, the shapeshifting sonic palette of The OOZ, the primality of Man Alive! and the raw vulnerability expressed on You Heat Me Up, You Cool Me Down all coalesce into a wizened, dynamic body of work that reveals new elements with each listen. In line with Archy’s interest in the space between, it is an album wherein the negative space demands the same attention as the positive space. If one is willing to wade into the mire the reward is rich.

Available on limited clear vinyl.

THIS IS THE KIT
CAREFUL OF YOUR KEEPERS

CD /LP /LTD LP + Digital

01. Goodbye Bite / 02. Inside Outside / 03. Take You To Sleep / 04. More Change / 05. This is When The Sky Gets Big / 06. Scabby Head and Legs / 07. Careful of Your Keepers / 08. Doomed Or More Doomed / 09. Stuck in a Room / 10. Dibs

Label: ROUGH TRADE

Singer-songwriter and composer, Kate Stables returns with a wondrous new This Is The Kit album, Careful of Your Keepers, that chronicles a world of mistakes and mishaps, cruel circumstances, and universe-driven surprises. It’s a record that embraces the concept of outrospection – the idea that you get to know oneself by developing relationships and empathic thinking with others – and brings the Paris-based, UK born bandleader’s signature ability to move swiftly between cryptic poetry to honest inquisition to the fore.

Guiding the ship through changing seas is producer Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), who deftly enhances the innate shared language that Stables has with her band, capturing beautiful instrumental performances while leaving the space required for her robust, silken voice to lead. The music here is daring and soft, cutting and warm, a wild feat of complexity and combined dispositions. Surviving change is a constant throughout this record and This is the Kit takes us to the front lines in “More Change,” where we celebrate the losing battle of fighting change with barbed dancing lyrics that whisk us from the mundane to the massive as a steady beat and delicate guitars wind in and out, down and around Stables words: “light bulb / life changing / found a friend…claw sanity back again.” The sonic brilliance always comes back to bite and the cascading melodies of “Stuck In A Room” plant the listener in the most familiar of recent quandaries, wanting to leave but being unable to. There are so many versions of “leaving” one might be attracted to in this disappointing modern age, and Stables works through them all. Conflict hits hard and with surprise but have the right people around you and you can escape by the skin of your teeth.

Available on limited dark green coloured vinyl.

Love and Rockets are the seminal, groundbreaking trio of Daniel Ash (vocals and guitar), David J (vocals and bass) and Kevin Haskins (drums). They formed in 1985 after the first split of their band, Bauhaus. Love and Rockets provided a clean slate and an opportunity to plumb the depths of imagination and influences.

Beggars Arkive continue their reissue series with the expanded vinyl edition of ‘Hot Trip To Heaven’.

The band’s fifth album, ‘Hot Trip To Heaven’, was strikingly different from anything previous, and has a diverse range of influences from twisted lounge jazz to ambient trance. With additional vocals by the celebrated Egyptian Belgian singer Natacha Atlas, the album’s world music influences are evident.

New York Magazine said it was, “hypnotic, glistening, dark and crashing,” and in 1994 the album was ahead of its time, pre-dating the electronic music revolution by a few years. Citing Primal Scream’s ‘Screamadelica’, Underworld’s ‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman’, The Orb and Aphex Twin as prime touchstones, ‘Hot Trip To Heaven’ spawned two singles; the hypnotic ‘This Heaven’ and the sprawling ‘Body and Soul’.

Double LP with a gatefold sleeve, out of print for over 25 years, and expanded with three extra tracks: ‘Firewater’ is an early version of ‘This Heaven’ (unreleased); ‘This Heaven (Experience Remix: Flying Vocal Mix)’ is an unreleased mix; ‘Coyote’ is taken from the ‘Body and Soul’ US 12” vinyl and CD single.

Forming in 1985 after the first split of their band Bauhaus, Love and Rockets is the seminal, groundbreaking trio of Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins. Love and Rockets provided a clean slate and an opportunity to plumb the depths of imagination and influences.

Having signed to Rick Rubin’s American Recordings label, the band was guided by the legendary producer in a return to more guitar-based songs for 1996’s Sweet F.A. The album cover features a striking photo of a burnt guitar which was retrieved from the debris after a fire broke out at Rubin’s mansion, where the band were living while working on songs for the album. They lost all of their gear, some of their demo recordings, and nearly their lives as well. The resulting album was inspired by some of their earliest influences – The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Doors, Can. It spins tales of passion and loss, carried on a fluid, moody throb. Undulating, hypnotic rhythms twine around melancholy lyrics which examine life at a primal level, as ethereal electronic effects play counterpoint to earthquake-reverberating guitars. The track “Sweet Lover Hangover” was an alternative radio hit.

Expanded with four extra tracks.
