Coinciding with the end of his UK tour, which included a triumphant a sold-out show at London’s Oslo on April 5th and dates in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, Steve Gunn today releases the third and final instalment of the live acoustic song series from his critically acclaimed new album, The Unseen In Between, out now on Matador Records. Filmed by The Mitcham Submarine in London’s Albert Memorial, the stripped-back rendition of ‘Chance’ highlights the songs humanistic meditation on those living on the fringes, just trying to get by.

Steve Gunn has been on tour for the majority of 2019 so far, making stops on CBS This Morning and KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, in support of his widely acclaimed new album The Unseen In Between. Several of the shows were opened by psych-folk legend Sachiko Kanenobu, playing some of her first-ever US shows, with the story of the friendship between the two artists documented in a recent New York Times T Magazine article. An admired and in-demand collaborator, Gunn recently added further production credits to his name for Michael Chapman’s critically acclaimed new album, True North, and playing an improvised set with Ryley Walker at Brooklyn’s Union Pool. He will also be performing a special soundtrack to Andy Warhol’s Kiss alongside Kim Gordon, Bill Nace, and John Truscinski, at the opening of Gordon’s Lo-Fi Glamour exhibition on May 16th at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.

Over the past few years, Steve Gunn has become one of American folk-rock’s most pivotal and regarded figures – conjuring immersive and psychedelic sonic landscapes live and on record, releasing a stream of lauded albums that have appeared in a multitude of ‘best of’ lists, and recording exploratory collaborations with artists including Mike Cooper, Hiss Golden Messenger, Kurt Vile, and Michael Chapman. Written in the wake of his father’s passing, The Unseen In Between is Steve’s most accomplished and moving work to date, with sweeping and immersive songs showcasing his deft yet minimal guitar style to the backdrop of rich instrumentation, the lyrics meditative and mysterious yet intimate and poignant.
