Listen: Röyksopp new single “Never Ever (feat. Susanne Sundfør)”

When electronic music superstars Röyksopp released ‘The Inevitable End’ in 2014, they pledged that it would be their final full-length record, thus completing their six album cycle. They also pledged they would return with new music in other forms as and when time was right.  Their new single, the standalone ‘Never Ever’, is them coming good on that promise with an unabashedly club-ready track influenced by late-period disco and ‘80s electronic pop.

In Röyksopp terms it’s closest, probably to “Do It Again” with Robyn from the 2014 EP of the same name, but really, they’ve not done anything quite like this before. “The track has its own cosmos and it’s own place” says Svein Berge. Continue reading →

Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple – new song stream!

lukecircletree_mg_0321stevekeros

Luke Temple, the creative mind behind Here We Go Magic, will release his stunning new folk album, A Hand Through The Cellar Door on November 11th on Secretly Canadian via Rhythmethod in NZ. It has been three years since the release of Temple’s last solo album, Good Mood Fool. This new album is, in many ways, his most straightforward collection of song-storying tunes to date. Throughout, he creates small, confident stories with a massive scope. There are tales of dysfunctional, broken homes and of dysfunctional, broken people. Listen to the debut single, “Birds of Late December”

Lydia Cole shares new single via “Sober” video

Opening into a sparse, glowing musical arrangement that burns slowly but steadily across the song’s duration, the clean and subtle delivery of “Sober”expresses an ode to coming clean; a declaration to oneself in finding meaningful human connection.

“Just want a sober exchange at the end of the day, then I’ll have nothing to blame for the way I behave.”

The single is part of a new body of work recorded, produced and engineered with the support of a successful Kickstarter campaign. More album announcement details to come soon.

Kim Gordon’s new single Murdered Out

Black matte spray.

When I moved back to LA I noticed more and more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels.  This was something I had occasionally seen in the past, part of low-rider car culture.  A reclaiming of a corporate symbol of American success, The Car, from an outsider’s point of view.  A statement-making rejection of the shiny brand new look, the idea of a new start, the promise of power, and the freedom on the open road.  Like an option on a voting ballot, “none of the above.”

“Murdered Out,” as a look, is now creeping into mainstream culture as a design trend.  A coffee brand.  A clothing line.  A nail polish color.

Black-on-black matte is the ultimate expression in digging out, getting rid of, purging the soul.  Like a black hole, the supreme inward look, a culture collapsing in on itself, the outsider as an unwilling participant as the “It” look.

###

I met the uber talented Justin Raisen, the producer, offhandedly.  He was working on a project with another artist and kept sending me tracks to listen to with the possibility of getting me to sing on one of them.  When I learned I could make up my own lyrics, I was in.  With the remaining bits of unused vocals, he started what would be “Murdered Out.”   Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) plays drums, based on the trashy drums that Justin first laid down.  I went back and did more vocals and guitar and we mixed it…”Murdered Out” was such a great surprise! Looking forward to our next collaboration.

American music publication Earmilk is premiering Andrew Keoghan’s latest single Queues at Dani Keys; a gender-bending nod to the ‘new romantic’ videos of the eighties.

Directed by Auckland VFX whiz Puck Murphy, who has made videos for The Phoenix Foundation, the Queues At Dani Keys clip is a quantum fashion piece; a multi-dimensional nightclub, where one’s alter ego seduces its’ other facade, in a wry commentary on vanity, reinvention and the perils of big city ambition.

M83, aka Anthony Gonzalez, announces the highly anticipated details of his forthcomingfull-length album, ‘Junk’ out April 8 on Pod via Inertia / Rhythmethod.

The announce comes with a brand new single “Do It, Try It” which premiered today on BBC Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World.  Fans can pre-order the album now and download “Do It, Try It” instantly:inertia.lnk.to/Junk

‘Junk’ is the follow up to the critically acclaimed album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’, that featured Grammy nominated single, “Midnight City,” that would go onto become a definite radio hit and receive Platinum Certification.

While M83 albums has always combined genres in a nostalgic and provocative way – from shoegaze and ambient to synth-pop and ’90s alt-rock – for ‘Junk’, Gonzalez experiments adventurously with sounds and styles he’s never previously attempted in his music. “All my albums have layers of eclecticism to them, but with this album I wanted to take that even further,” he says.
