A new remix of acclaimed L.A. foursome Warpaint’s hit “New Song” from Soulwax premieres today, listen here. Taken from their much-lauded new album Heads Up, “New Song” has topped charts nationwide since its release. Furthermore, Warpaint will perform “New Song” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonDecember 16.

The band previously shared takes on “New Song” from Beastie Boys’ Mike D and Jono Jagwar Ma. Watch the band’s self-shot video for the original version, available now on YouTube after debuting as a Facebook exclusive, here.

Warpaint is fresh from the second leg of their North American tour, of which LA Weekly said, “These days they play tighter, faster and with greater finesse, unfathomably continuing to find new heights.” The band will continue to tour throughout 2017.

Heads Up continues to receive critical praise:

“From the start, Warpaint has been knocking on the door of an aesthetic that captivates by playing off the tension between hard-driving rhythms and spectral atmospherics. At the 9:30 Club, with smoke catching the lights and plumes of guitars mingling with Stella Mozgawa’s titanic drums, the band brought its records to life on a whole new scale.” – NPR Music

Heads Up reveals a unified front. Artfully layered and often beat-centered, it’s an indie-rock album both brooding and frisky, with a few tracks, like ‘New Song,’ that veer toward the euphoric.” – The New York Times

“Warpaint keeps it groovy and sensual on Heads Up, its third full-length album.  Warpaint songs are constantly in motion—guitars shape-shift around the beat, vocals slither around the rhythms and melodies evolve rather than command. Lead single ‘New Song’ is also further evidence that Warpaint is a rock band that knows how to dance. The band may specialize in spare atmospheres, but that doesn’t mean it still can’t shake and saunter.” – Los Angeles Times

Heads Up signals a turn away from otherworldly psychedelic soundscapes in favor of a terrestrial one: the dance floor…the band sounds as sure and ebullient as ever.” – The New Yorker

Heads Up gives the group’s inner disco ball a few extra spins. This is an album influenced as much by contemporary R&B and club music as it is the textured guitars and ambient arrangements of 4AD outfits such as the Cocteau Twins and Throwing Muses that wafted through its earlier albums.” – Chicago Tribune

Heads Up was recorded after the band spent 2015 apart working on solo projects and their own endeavors. Reuniting in January of this year, the band invited producer Jacob Bercovici—with whom they had worked on their debut EP Exquisite Corpse—into their House on the Hill studio in Downtown Los Angeles to begin work on the new LP. For the first time ever, the band recorded in pairs and alone rather than as a full band, allowing for a new creative freedom.

Warpaint is Emily Kokal (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), Stella Mozgawa (drums, vocals) and Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals). Heads Up follows their critically beloved debut EP Exquisite Corpse, 2010’s The Fool and 2014’s Warpaint.
