WESLEY JOSEPH SHARES NEW SINGLE / VIDEO ‘MONSOON’

4 mins read

Multi-hyphenate musician and director Wesley Joseph today returns with the cinematic new single, “MONSOON”. “MONSOON” marks the first taste of new music since “COLD SUMMER”, and both are part of a bountiful new 8-track collection “GLOW”, set for release 17th February 2022 via esteemed independent record-label Secretly Canadian.

Co-produced by A.K Paul, “MONSOON” is hugely evocative and feels like the perfect meeting of minds between two forward-facing craftsmen. Joseph’’s delivery is clear and poised, enhanced by the shuffle of boom-bap drumming and the decadent harmonies brought forth during the chorus.  The track conjures nocturnal hedonism at the same time as it contemplates grief,  beautifully realised in the hyper stylish, self-directed visual accompaniment.

“I wrote and recorded ‘Monsoon’ with A.K. Paul and Harvey Dweller between my studio and A.K.’s space in London earlier this year. The process felt like an awakening, and the beginning of a new chapter after ULTRAMARINE. I’d been thinking and re-evaluating things and the song put a lot in perspective for me. It’s a journey of liberation, and I found myself questioning and understanding my own feelings about the turbulence of life itself. The video is the most minimalist I’ve directed but also the most poignant, with each scene existing as a visual metaphor and the focus throughout being on feeling and expression.”  Wesley Joseph

“MONSOON” follows another breakout year for the ascendant artist. Joseph was recently named in Vevo’s Artist To Watch 2023, which follows an AIM award nomination,  a feature on Loyle Carner’s lauded new album “hugo” and the release of his aforementioned single “COLD SUMMER”, and its video accompaniment, a cryptic post-post-Tarantino gangster comedy shot in Kazakhstan. 2021 saw Joseph release his debut project “ULTRAMARINE” to critical acclaim, earning accolades across the music and fashion worlds, including the likes of AnOther Man, The Face, The Fader, The Guardian, GQ, i-D, NME, Pigeons & Planes, Vogue and more.  Previous collaborators are broad ranging and expertly selected,  including Jorja Smith, Loyle Carner, A.K. Paul, Joy Orbison, Leon Vynehall and Dave Okumu.  As a director,  Joseph is represented by renowned production company Stink.

Wesley Joseph will also be supporting Loyle Carner on his sold-out UK tour, see below for the full list of dates and information,  and with the release of “GLOW” on the horizon it is clear Joseph is on the path to becoming a world-changing talent.

“Wesley Joseph’s genre-blending music has undeniable soul and he is an essential rising artist”

Pigeons & Planes

“Sonically somewhere between Andre 3000 and Jai Paul… Wesley Joseph makes the kind of airy, electro-soul that feels featherlight”
