ALGIERS SHARE PRURIENT REMIX OF ‘DEATH MARCH’,

FROM CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM  – THE UNDERSIDE OF POWER – OUT NOW

Praise for The Underside Of Power:

“… a righteous blast of punk, hip-hop and soul. As a dismal political year ends, he’s living proof anger is still an energy” – Q

“…. gleefully fuses classic 60s soul with post-punk experimentation to frequently astonishing effect” – The Observer

“… the 20th century reimagined as a series of revolutionary spirituals” – The Wire

“Soul music for the end of the world” – FACT

Algiers’ second album, The Underside Of Power, has emerged since its June release as one of the most pertinent and critically regarded albums of 2017 – an uncompromising treatise on injustice, oppression and in turn resistance, delivered through an incendiary amalgamation of post-punk, hip hop, soul and noise.

Ahead of the band’s imminent UK and European tour dates, Algiers today share a remix by Prurient of album highlight ‘Death March’. The ten-minute rework sees the US multi-media artist, real name Dominick Fernow, weave charred drum loops, looming synths and arresting vocal shards into an alternately hypnotic, towering and beautiful sonic landscape.

The Underside Of Power sees the transatlantic four piece or Franklin James Fisher, Ryan Mahan, Lee Tesche and Matt Tong, stationed between NYC and London, delve into political unrest both in the US and UK, touching on oppression, police brutality, and hegemonic power structures, via a musical palette traversing Northern soul and gospel to IDM, industrial, italo, grime, and musical touchstones such as Suicide, Afrika Bambaata, The Pop Group, Public Enemy and Nina Simone.
