UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA “UR LIFE ONE NIGHT”

With a bolstered sound that incorporates funk-infused synths and emotionally charged lyrics, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s third album, Multi-Love, is their strongest to date. Now, the band is proud to share a brand new video for the track, “Ur Life One Night”, featuring a vast and kaleidoscopic collection of stories, colours, and visual effects. Director Manoj Leonel Jahson sought out inspiration in Traditional Asian Art through the incorporation of Mughai-era miniature paintings and more. Here is what he had to say about the film:

“When we first spoke with UMO, the idea of creating something abstract yet fun, for their single ‘Ur Life, One Night’ sounded very exciting. I am deeply inspired by the quirky Indian magical-realism from our mythology and wanted to create something rooted but still visually appealing. The music lent a dream-like quality and the lyric pushed us to the motif of the Goddess being pursued, yet always being out of reach.”

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have two songs nominated in the finalists for the 2015 APRA Silver Scroll Award; ‘Multi Love’ and ‘Can’t Keep Checking My Phone’. The winner of the APRA Silver Scroll Award is decided by the votes of APRA’s members – over 10,000 New Zealand songwriters and composers. Voting for the award closes at midnight on Sunday 9th August. The award ceremony will be held in Auckland on Thursday, September 17 at Vector Arena.

“It’s all brilliant stuff, and there’s plenty more to uncover on every listen – such is the nature of UMO’s musicality.”  NZ Herald

“Within the first 30 seconds of opening track Cant Keep Checking My Phone, you know you’re in the presence of genius.” – Sunday Star Times

“Indulging in a touch more funk, soul and disco – orientated tackle than his previous excursions, ex-Mint Chick Ruban Nielson slides through some smooth waters on Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s third full-length effort Multi Love.” – The Listener

“If Prince had listened to The Mint Chicks third album Screens and then collaborated with Ruban Nielson himself, I’m not sure we’d have a finer album than we have here.” Cheeseontoast.co.nz
