Minneapolis-born R&B experimentalist Velvet Negroni shares his new single ‘Bagette’. The single is available to buy and stream now on all partners via 4AD.
‘Bagette’ is the first new single from Velvet Negroni — alter-ego of creative polymath Jeremy Nutzman — since the release of his acclaimed album NEON BROWN last summer. Where the album twisted and turned from R&B slow jams to upbeat funk-pop, ‘Bagette’ sees Nutzman go darker and heavier. His tongue-twisting lyrics soar above an overdriven beat and distorted guitar riff. The single kicks off a year filled with live dates, including his current tour supporting Sudan Archives in the US, and forthcoming UK date at The Great Escape in Brighton. ‘
Raised in an outer suburb of the Twin Cities, Jeremy Nutzman — a black kid adopted into a white evangelical Christian family — split his formative years between classical piano lessons and late-night jam sessions. A duality that permeates every corner of his music, Nutzman’s music thrives in the borderlands between indie rock and R&B, with credits on songs for artists including Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Bon Iver. Around the release of NEON BROWN, he spent 2019 touring extensively with dates across the world including two support slots at Madison Square Garden with Tame Impala. Now in 2020, Nutzman is back on the road.
