Last fall, Gabriel Garzón-Montano released his new album, Agüita, a collection of “tender acoustic ballads, silky R&B performance, and contemporary urbano swagger” (Pitchfork), via Jagjaguwar. The album was met with praise by the likes of NPR Music, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Uproxx, Spin, Interview,  and more. TIME named the album one of 2020’s best, stating Garzón-Montano is an “an artist who understands his expertise while also pushing his bounds.”

Today, Garzón-Montano celebrates Agüita by releasing Armando Young’s remix of album standout, ‘Someone,’ a reimagined version of the original featuring Jamila Woods. “Someone” tells a story of two lovers in limbo trying to carve out a familiar and comforting dynamic in a time of transition. Woods’ version features her own voice over a jockeying beat and a chorus of warped vocals.

“I’m grateful to be able to make such beautiful music with friends,” says Garzón-Montano. “Armando is a beast and Jamila is a monster so I was in the most loving hands. I’m honored to present this ‘Someone’ remix.”

Woods elaborates further: “I’ve been a big fan of Gabriel for a while and it was so fun to re-make this song with him! The lyrics are so visual and vulnerable and the story of the song really resonated with me. Armando’s remix brought such a good energy and made it one of those songs that invites you to dance your feelings out.”

“…his music radiates self-reflection—each song carefully considered and delivered with intention.” — Pitchfork

“In an album where stark sonic contrasts reign at every turn, it is Garzón-Montano’s soulful approach that makes this album a must listen.” — Bandcamp
