Bristol’s nu-gaze shapeshifters, Split Chain, who recently returned with the heavy-hitting ‘scatterbrain,’ taken from their forthcoming motionblur [DELUXE] album out September 11, have released two new reimagined songs, featuring upcoming touring partners.
‘Headway [DLX]’ features Las Vegas hardcore outfit Roman Candle, while ‘SPIT [DLX]’ features London hardcore quartet False Reality.
Speaking of the collaborations, the band shares, “Asking both Piper and Rachel to feature on these songs was an absolute no brainer for us. We’re all such big fans of what they do in their own bands and we were so excited to see how they would interpret these songs. Not only that, but being able to have features from bands in both the US and UK scenes is so sick.
They both have such distinctive, dynamic and incredible voices and hearing how their own natural flair sits so well in these songs is legitimately insane.
They’ve genuinely done the songs an incredible amount of justice, and their unique takes on each have really elevated the songs to a point where they now sit comfortably as their definitive versions. We couldn’t be happier with how the songs have turned out, and we’re so excited to be able to tour with them in September.”
motionblur [DELUXE] is a digital deluxe edition of their acclaimed debut motionblur, releasing September 11th on Epitaph Records. Each track has been reimagined by the band and features rising bands in today’s alternative scene, bringing in London hardcore group False Reality on ‘SPIT,’ Las Vegas’ Roman Candle on ‘Headway,’ and many more. Expanding on the deluxe edition, the band shares, “we are so, so proud of what we created with motionblur, and we wanted to come up with a way to celebrate it all over again, in a way that both shows love to the scene that has helped us get where we are now, as well as including many of the friends that we’ve made along the way.” The motionblur [DELUXE] will also include recent singles, ‘sylvia (i won’t belong to you),’ ‘scatterbrain,’ as well as ‘untitled,’ a track that was previously hidden and unlisted on the LP & CD versions of the album.
“We get that everyone interprets music in their own way, and so we invited a bunch of mates to feature across the album, so that we could hear their individual interpretations of the songs. It came out so much better than we could have even hoped, and we truly believe the work and energy that every person has done on every song is incredible. The cast of names on this version on this album is sick, and we know people are gonna love it just as much as we do. We’re so incredibly grateful to every single artist that has helped the deluxe become a reality and we genuinely can’t wait to hear what everybody thinks.”
Split Chain head back out on a UK headline tour this September with special guests False Reality and Roman Candle. The band will make stops at Southampton’s The Joiners, Glasgow’s G2 and wrap up at London’s Underworld on September 25th.
“Since the band started back in 2023, everything has happened for us so quickly. Before we knew it, we’d signed with Epitaph, put out our debut LP out, have spent the past 10 months since release touring across Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. There was a point of realization for us amongst all of the chaos, where we realized that we hadn’t actually toured the UK since way before motionblur was released. We decided that we absolutely had to give the album a proper tour at home, and we’re so stoked that it’s finally happening. Not only that, but we also get to tour with some really sick bands in False Reality and Roman Candle, who we all love. We’re genuinely really excited to tour the UK again and can’t wait to get back out on the road.”
Following the highly anticipated release of motionblur last summer, Split Chain solidified themselves as the hottest, zeitgeist-capturing band in the world. Described by Revolver as “a new higher-water mark for the nu-gaze movement,” Split Chain honours the grunge and angsty distortion of nu-metal titans while carving their own mark in the scene. With press acclaim for motionblur across Consequence, Knotfest, Stereogum, Revolver, Kerrang! and more.
Praise for Split Chain
“[scatterbrain] centers in on some of the Bristol quintet’s greatest strengths: bittersweet, effects-soaked guitar hooks, driving post-hardcore propulsion, and the power-ached vocal vulnerability of frontman Bert Martinez-Cowles.” – Revolver
“Holy Around the Fur-era Deftones Batman! Split Chain absolutely nail that vibe, combining crushing riffs with screamed vocals – hit with hella distortion – and hints of Chino-esque clean-sung melody.” – Consequence
“A stylistic amalgam of emo, grunge, shoegaze and nu-metal, the band’s pedigree offers an obvious nod to greats like Deftones, Basement and Superheaven all while stamping their own signature.” – Knotfest
