Baby Rose has released Slow Burn: A Short Film, a stylish, absorbing short film directed by David Maxwell. Set to the music of the recently-released EP of the same title, featuring and produced by BADBADNOTGOOD, the film also features scenes set to Rose’s poetry, as well as an appearance by singer, rapper and songwriter Mereba, who features on the Slow Burn EP.
On the short film, Rose explained:
“Slow Burn the short film expresses my love for cinema and my desire to build my own cinematic imprint. This is me shedding light on the project in a deeper way and showing the world around it, set in a speakeasy, which is what we ruminated on while creating the album. The record itself is reflective of the past versions of myself and so it felt right to narrate from my future self’s perspective while adding a visual layer to each song’s energy.”
Also released is the physical version of the Slow Burn EP via Secretly Canadian, now on vinyl for the first time following its April 2024 digital release (order here).
Undoubtedly one of the decade’s most striking voices, the Slow Burn EP, saw Baby Rose stepping into her rightful place within the sonic realm of alternative music. It features songs rooted in psych rock, country, Americana and beyond; sounds that originated from the Black community, which capture a very natural arrival for the young artist. The union between Rose and BADBADNOTGOOD resembles the spirit of historic collaborations from the past that shaped the trajectory of music such as that between the legendary Aretha Franklin and Muscle Shoals, an era that has proven foundational for Rose.
