BADBADNOTGOOD have officially released ‘Poeira Cosmia’, a new single featuring Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer and producer Tim Bernardes, with additional contributions from the legendary composer Arthur Verocai. The song premiered live at BADBADNOTGOOD’s sold-out, eight-night Blue Note residency in September, when Bernardes joined the ensemble for a series of songs including ‘Poeira Cosmia,’ and a cover of Milton Nascimento’s ‘Tudo O Que Vocé Podia Ser’. The trio struck up a friendship with Bernardes in 2018 to which Bernardes opened for BADBADNOTGOOD at their first show in Brazil in 2019, with Arthur Verocai. This is the first vocal-led collaboration following the group’s Mid Spiral suite, which saw “the band continue to grow and push jazz’ boundaries” (The Needle Drop).

BADBADNOTGOOD have had a rip-roaring year. In January they released their stand-alone single ‘Take What’s Given’ featuring reggie, and attended the GRAMMYs after receiving their fifth nomination, this time as a primary artist. In April their collaborative project with Baby Rose Slow Burn was released, shortly after the ensemble rolled out their Mid Spiral suite: Chaos, Order, Growth, which was followed by the release of their contribution to the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense tribute album with a cover of ‘This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’ featuring Norah Jones.

BADBADNOTGOOD members Al Sow, Chester Hansen and Leland Whitty were joined by their close friends and collaborators on Mid Spiral, Felix Fox-Pappas (keys), Toronto jazz musicians Kaelin Murphy (trumpet), Juan Carlos Medrano Magallenes (percussion), on the road this year with performances at major festival across the global including: OutsideLands, Primavera, Life is Beautiful, Bumbershoot, Corona Capital, Bonnaroo and more. BADBADNOTGOOD also played their first ever Blue Note residency in NYC, eight sold-out shows, back to back, with guests across the nights from Nick Hakin to Julius Rodriguez, Tim Bernardes, Stephane San Juan, Keenyn Omari and Immanuel Wilkins.

Since the release of BADBADNOTGOOD’s late-2021 acclaimed album Talk Memory, the group has continued to expand their collaborators list since adding work with Charlotte Day Wilson on ‘Sleeper,’ 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, Westside Gunn plus Conway The Machine on ‘MiNt cHoCoLaTe’ and Jonah Yano on ‘the ordinary is ordinary because it ordinarily repeats.’ Further, BADBADNOTGOOD contributed to Daniel Caesar’s 2023 album Never Enough, worked with rising artist Elmiene on an edit of his single ‘Marking My Time’ and reimagined Turnstile songs for their EP New Heart Designs.
