BADBADNOTGOOD return to share ‘Best Left Unsolved,’ a bonus track from the Mid Spiral sessions that took place at Valentine Studios in Los Angeles during February 2024. This new, previously unreleased track accompanies the trio’s recent surprise release of the Mid Spiral suite: Chaos, Order and Growth, which features BADBADNOTGOOD members Al Sow, Chester Hansen and Leland Whitty joined by their close friends and collaborators, BADBADNOTGOOD touring member Felix Fox-Pappas (keys), Toronto jazz musicians Kaelin Murphy (trumpet), Juan Carlos Medrano Magallenes (percussion) and LA musician Tyler Lott (guitar).

The Mid Spiral suite exploits instrumental jazz at its core seeing BADBADNOTGOOD continue to push the boundaries of how they integrate a limitless range of genres and musicianship into their compositions. For the Valentine sessions, the trio invited additional musicians to join their ensemble in order to provide more voices of instrumentation, resulting in a deeply collaborative and expansive new sound. BADBADNOTGOOD took Mid Spiral to the stage this summer making appearances at festivals including Primavera Sound, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Elsewhere Fest, Rose On The River Festival, Outside Lands, Bumbershoot, Life Is Beautiful, Corona Capital and more.

The trio has also announced today that across September 16th – 19th they’ll perform eight shows at New York City’s legendary Blue Note Jazz Club. Accompanied by the players that joined the trio in the Mid Spiral studio sessions, BADBADNOTGOOD will perform music from their expansive catalog, the Mid Spiral suite and roll out a week of special guests across the residency.

Since the release of BADBADNOTGOOD’s late-2021 acclaimed album Talk Memory, the group has been steady at work: the alt-jazz ensemble received their fifth GRAMMY nomination at this years awards, in January they released Take What’s Given’ featuring emerging Houston vocalist reggie, which followed a string of one-off singles with collaborators including Charlotte Day Wilson on Sleeper,’ 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, Westside Gunn plus Conway The Machine on MiNt cHoCoLaTe’ and Jonah Yano on the ordinary is ordinary because it ordinarily repeats.’ Further, BADBADNOTGOOD contributed to Daniel Caesar’s 2023 album Never Enough, worked with rising artist Elmiene on an edit of his single Marking My Time’ and contributed to the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense tribute album with a cover of This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’ with Norah Jones.
