CASSANDRA JENKINS shares intimate acoustic versions

3 mins read

Cassandra Jenkins has shared ‘Delphinium Blue | A Take Away Show’, featuring a live performance of the transcendent single filmed by La Blogothèque earlier this year in Paris.

The track – stripped of its layered synths in this wistful, intimate acoustic version – is taken from Jenkins’ recent, critically acclaimed album My Light, My Destroyer, released in July, 2024, via Dead Oceans.

On the performance, Jenkins said:

“I fulfilled a lifelong dream of working with flowers when I got a job at a flower shop in New York City, and worked there for two years until I began touring again. The day to day tasks gave me a new appreciation for flowers & the people who gravitate towards them.”

Like the night sky itself, My Light, My Destroyer is always expanding. Cassandra Jenkins’ third full-length cracks open the promise of reaching the edge of the new with a wider sonic palette than ever before– encompassing guitar-driven indie rock, new age, sophistipop, and jazz. At the center of it all is Jenkins’ curiosity towards the quarks and quasars that make up her universe, as she blends field recordings with poetic lyricism that is at turns allusive, humorous, devastating and confessional– an alchemical gesture that further deepens the richness of My Light, My Destroyer’s 13 songs.

Recent praise for My Light, My Destroyer:

“This is the sound of an artist quietly, rapturously coming to life…profoundly illuminating.” – Uncut

“Determination and its flip side, desperation, are nothing new in Jenkins’ work. But here, they take on almost cosmic dimensions, providing the backdrop to some of her most revelatory—and carefully rendered—songwriting yet.” – Pitchfork

“My Light, My Destroyer, then, is everything a third Cassandra Jenkins album should be: Across 13 pieces of music, dialogue and field recordings, Jenkins invites us closer to home and takes us further away.” – Paste

“…a deeply satisfying listen – one of this year’s best records.” – Loud & Quiet

“…a beautiful, brooding delight.” – The Guardian

“…contemporary, refreshing, and utterly commanding.” – Line of Best Fit
