Toronto-born Grammy-nominated singersongwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Day Wilson returns with a new single, Selfish,’ out now via Stone Woman Music / XL Recordings. A master of emotionally charged vocals and self-produced soul, Wilson’s new offering continues to redefine the sound of contemporary R&B with cinematic soundscapes and her commanding yet tender voice. ‘Selfish’ opens with a warm resonance of electric piano and subtle basslines layered over a steady beat loop, allowing Wilson’s signature ethereal vocals to float effortlessly over the instrumental. Her voice moves with quiet control, layered harmonies intertwining seamlessly while subtle percussion and gentle reverb create a euphoric listening experience. Known for her commanding ballads, every element here feels deliberate as Wilson transforms the song’s more uptempo, minimalist production into a rich emotional landscape. Listen to Selfish’ HERE.

Wilson shares about the single, “Selfish is one of those songs that came together effortlessly. About 3 hours all together, just pure collaborative ease between myself, Saya Gray, Ace G & Braden Sauder. Saya was sitting at the piano playing some chords and instantly I knew where the song was heading. It was one of those moments we dream of as songwriters where there are no questions just answers.”

The release of Selfish’ follows a major career milestone for Wilson, who was honoured last month with the 2025 Innovator Award at the Billboard Canada Women in Music ceremony. This year’s event made history as the Innovator Award was presented in Canada for the first time, a fitting recognition for an artist whose creative expression and visionary production have made her a touchstone artist in modern music.

Since her breakout 2016 EP CDW, Wilson has continued to captivate audiences. With her 2018 EP, Stone Woman, 2021 debut album Alpha, and her most recent album, Cyan Blue (2024), Charlotte Day Wilson has garnered high praise from media outlets such as The New York Times, NPR, Pitchfork, The FADER, The Guardian, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, Grammy.com and more. Over the past decade, her music has extended its influence beyond the studio with artists such as Drake, John Mayer, and James Blake sampling her work. Wilson has also collaborated with acclaimed musicians Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Syd, and most recently, with Montreal producer Ouri on the track Behave.’

With ‘Selfish’ setting the tone for this next chapter, the single arrives as just the first transmission in a steadily unfolding wave- more new music from Charlotte Day Wilson is already on the horizon.

PRESS PRAISE FOR CHARLOTTE DAY WILSON

“Wilson occupies a lane distinct from most burgeoning R&B stars and often allows her soulful music to be the center of attention.” – Billboard

“ Wilson directly channels soul music of decades past but also inhabits that same minimalist expanse occupied by so many of her contemporaries.– NPR

“The Toronto singer-songwriter and producer’s vast voice is like a canyon that the sun can’t access; the percolating soul and quiet storm that surround it flicker like candlelight….Her voice—and what a voice, deep and passionate, cast in the mold of Anita Baker—feels less crepuscular, less intimate, and more capable of levitating cars and uprooting whole forests.” – Pitchfork

“She can shush viewers to silence with heart-wrenching lyrics and rile them up with a surprise saxophone solo—all in the same song.”Harper’s Bazaar

“Blending elements of jazz, soul, folk, and R&B, Wilson writes deeply personal lyrics and delivers them with the expertise of a seasoned vocalist.”Complex

“she’s got the type of slow-burning, smoldering jazz and R&B-influenced sound that already feels classic.” – NYLON

“Charlotte expertly pulls inspirations from jazz, R&B and soul and what results is an atmosphere that is solely her own.”Hypebeast
