DANNY L HARLE shares SASHA Raft In The Sea remixes on new EP

Danny L Harle has shared a suite of remixes of ‘Raft In The Sea’, reworked by Sasha — the legendary British DJ and producer widely credited with shaping global club culture across four decades. The four-track EP is out today – 24th August – via XL Recordings. Listen now here.

If the original, featuring Julia Michaels, was Harle at his most stripped-back – a song of quiet devastation built on swelling synths and open space – Sasha’s versions restore the scale without sacrificing the melancholy. The original is stretched across crescendoing builds and the kind of euphoric synth work that defined the sound that made his name, arriving at something that sits naturally alongside Harle’s debut album Cerulean’s own pursuit of melancholic euphoria. The mixes have been a fixture of Sasha’s sets since they were completed.

Speaking about the remixes, Sasha says:Remixing ‘Raft In The Sea’ was a really great experience. It was fun to revisit the more trancey end of what I do. All the mixes have been a big part of my sets since we finished them, and the crowd reactions have been massive.”

Danny L Harle adds: Sasha’s music strikes a tone that no one else’s does. I particularly love his style of sparse trance harmony that gives a sense of simultaneous restraint and release. I was excited to see how he would approach the winding melody of ‘Raft In The Sea’ and I loved the result.”

Sasha first rose to international prominence in the 1990s through seminal mix albums including Renaissance: The Mix Collection and the Northern Exposure series with John Digweed, and was voted the world’s No.1 DJ by DJ Mag in 2000. Known for emotionally resonant, genre-blending sets, he has headlined Glastonbury, Coachella and Creamfields stages and held residencies at Twilo, Space Ibiza and Fabric, while his Involver series redefined the boundaries between Djing and production. Studio albums including Airdrawndagger, Scene Delete and LUZOSCURA showcased a cinematic, experimental edge, and his 2005 Essential Mix at Maida Vale — performed on a custom Maven controller and Ableton Live setup — remains one of the most innovative in BBC Radio 1’s history. Through his label Last Night on Earth he continues to champion emerging talent and forward-thinking sounds.

The EP continues a strand of Cerulean that has seen Harle hand his densely-arranged source material to other artists to reimagine, following the longer-form Starlight Divergence, Azimuth Divergence and Crystalise Divergence projects with Torus, Rachika Nayar and DOSS respectively.

Released in February, Cerulean marked Harle’s first full-length release on XL Recordings and his most definitive artistic statement to date. A voyage into vast, alien sonic landscapes, the album fuses speaker-blowing bass and euphoric trance synths with classical harmonies, tactile sound design and Harle’s own field recordings of waves lapping against the shore. Seeking “the best melodies sung by the best voices,” Harle enlisted an exceptional cast of collaborators including Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, Clairo, PinkPantheress, Oklou, MNEK, Michaels and kacha, alongside contributions from his own daughters. The album was accompanied by a 32-minute audiovisual film directed by Lilian Hardouineau, premiered exclusively via NTS, and explored in a New York Times profile.
