DJ Koze remixes EVERYTHING IS RECORDED ‘Porcupine Tattoo’

Everything Is Recorded return with a bold new twist on Porcupine Tattoo,’ a standout track and the first single from this year’s acclaimed album Temporary — now reimagined by none other than genre-defying sonic alchemist DJ Koze.

Never one to follow convention, Koze turns the original — a collaboration with American musical icons Noah Cyrus and Bill Callahan — completely inside out. The result is a remix that’s both electrifying and gloriously unhinged. Invited by Richard Russell, the creative force behind Everything Is Recorded, Koze approached the track with trademark irreverence, merging his warped production sensibility with the raw energy of rave-era chaos. The remix – Koze’s first new music since his acclaimed recent album Music Can Hear Us – nods to Russell and XL Recordings‘ musical roots and is available now digitally, and for pre-order on limited edition 12” vinyl in XL’s iconic house bag (releasing 22nd August).

“Richard asked me to approach this remix not with reverence – but with disrespect. It was liberating. Now it sounds a bit like a midlife crisis meets The Prodigy. You’ve been warned.”— DJ Koze

The DJ Koze remix follows the recent release of Solstice Equinox, the fourth Everything Is Recorded album — a collection of forty pieces recorded over four days during the seasonal solstices and equinoxes between 2023 and 2024 at The Copper House, Russell’s West London studio. Each improvisational session brought together a blend of longtime collaborators and new voices, including Alabaster DePlume, Jah Wobble, Ibeyi, Samantha Morton, Laura Groves, Jack Peñate, Roses Gabor, Mary In The Junkyard, Georgia, Sampha, Florence Welch, Yazz Ahmed, CASISDEAD, and more. The results — later edited, mixed, and pressed to screen-printed limited-edition vinyl — embody Russell’s fearless approach to collaboration.

Solstice Equinox bookmarked a prolific five-year chapter for Russell, following the release of Temporary  in February 2025. The critically acclaimed third Everything Is Recorded album features an extraordinary lineup including Sampha, Florence Welch, Bill Callahan, Noah Cyrus, Maddy Prior, Berwyn, Kamasi Washington, Rickey Washington, and many others from the Solstice Equinox sessions. Created over four years (2020–2024), Temporary built on the success of the Mercury Prize-nominated 2018 debut Everything Is Recorded.

Uncut called Temporary “an endearingly ramshackle album… by turns light, sunny and soulful,” while Clash praised it as “one of the gentlest records ever made about death… deeply affecting, like sunlight filtering through the cracks of a long-lost memory.” Crack Magazine described it as “raw and vulnerable, exploring impermanence, change and connection through a kaleidoscopic lineup of artists… a record that resonates deeply, long after the needle lifts.”

Beyond his work with  has continued to shape music from behind the scenes. He recently joined forces with acclaimed actor, director, and singer-songwriter Samantha Morton for the duo SAM MORTON, releasing their widely praised debut album Daffodils & Dirt. He also produced Four Kinds of Horses from i/o, Peter Gabriel’s first UK No.1 album in over 30 years, and this old house, the debut EP from rising London trio Mary In The Junkyard.

These releases — along with his lauded production work for Bobby Womack, Damon Albarn, Gil Scott-Heron, and Ibeyi — earned Russell the prestigious Inspiration Award at this year’s Music Producers Guild Awards in London.
