Emo-punk duo Carb on Carb share new visuals for ‘Man Says’

Our favourite emo-punk duo, Carb on Carb have shared a new video for ‘Man Says‘. The song is written from the perspective of a 16-year-old Nicole Gaffney(lead vocalist, guitarist). It’s about trying to find what sets you apart from everyone else in high school, trying to find who you are at that age, which sometimes means balancing your family and culture with assimilation into mainstream white culture.

The video for ‘Man Says’ is inspired by 90’s teen rom-com movies (think Legally Blonde or Freaky Friday). It pokes at the “I’m not like the other girls” trope fed to us by early 2000’s pop culture, highlighted by the eccentric mise en scene. ‘Man Says’ is a nostalgic throwback to our teen years and the pressure to fit in.

Notable tour fiends, Carb On Carb are excited to announce a few shows to share the joy of this release in Auckland, Hamilton and tonight in Wellington!

Carb On Carb released their sophomore album, for ages, last May, a heart-on-sleeve record inspiring an emotive-punk revival Aotearoa needs! The album received sparkling reviews worldwide, being praised for its “emotive resilience” (The Soundcheck). Standout track ‘Man Says’ was added to Spotify’s New Music Friday the week of the album’s release.

First single It’s Been a Rough Year was added to Spotify editorial playlists Local Noise, Women of AU and NZ and more, as well as rotation on community and student radio throughout Australia, NZ and the US. The track’s summery vibe blended with alternative guitar lines make for a feel-good anthem, with belting lyrics “resilient, you’ve got this right” attesting to the individual power to overcome life’s challenges.Weirdo Wasteland summed up the track, “Carb on Carb have weaved this raw emotionality into a resolute anthem…this is the kind of song that’s important to have these days. Listen to it and tell me it doesn’t make you feel a little bit better about life as it is for you currently.

Another gem from the Aotearoa two-piece…Utilising golden age alternative rock devices for a purely uplifting, wholesome affirmation.

Carb on Carb have a reputation for being tour dogs. Tonally, the album echoes the many intimate community spaces the band have played; basements, living rooms and DIY venues. In their relatively short lifespan they have already toured China, South East Asia, the US (twice, including showcases at the prestigious CMJ and Gainesville’s The Fest). They have made multiple runs across Australia and New Zealand, headlining DIY festivals No Front Fences and SAD By, as well as support tours with The Hotelier and Joyce Manor.
