FAT FREDDY’S DROP
ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR DATES
WITH A HUGE INTERNATIONAL LINE UP AT VILLA MARIA!
This summer Fat Freddy’s Drop will tour their high octane shows across the homeland to hand picked locations, combing vineyards and beaches to festivals and valleys culminating in a FFD curated line up at Villa Maria with internationals Hiatus Kaiyote from Melbourne and Norman Jay MBE from London. This is the third hook up with the legendary London DJ who unleashed his good times tunes supporting Freddy’s at Ally Pally, London and last summer’s Queenstown concert.
The tour will be the first time that the band has played on home soil since they officially sold out their largest headlining show in New Zealand earlier this year at the aforementioned Villa Maria, with all 10,000 tickets being snapped up.
It’s also a chance to experience songs off the band’s upcoming new album. They’ve road tested two new songs already on a stupendous tour to England and Europe through June and July and committed to studio lockdown until the New Zealand tour.
Hopepa aka Joe Lindsay – Freddys trombonist – says the live show is “going to be different again by the time summer rolls around” He’s especially looking forward to “coming home to Kerikeri” having attended Kerikeri High School for a couple of years before his family moved to Whangarei.
Special guests on the road include local stalwarts Ladi6 who join Freddy’s for the love of music at Kainui Road Vineyard and The Nudge back for the annual drop at Black Barn Vineyards. The concert in Christchurch turns the tables with Freddy’s playing as special guests for Salmonella Dub for their 25th Anniversary concert.

Fat Freddy’s Drop are at an exciting juncture, straight off the back of another stupendous summer tour to England and Europe the band are now back in the BAYS studio recording sessions for a new studio album.
The European / U.K. tour found the winners of the New Zealand Music International Achievement 2016 award once again making their mark at prestigious summer festivals and select headline shows performing to an excess of 100,000 people, drawing audiences equally in awe of the music and frenetic hi-jinks on stage.
“I’ve never seen so much crowd-surfing in my life. Perhaps, inspired by the passionate hip-thrusts of Joe Lindsay (aka Hopepa) who, mid-act comes out wearing sparkly underwear, a cape, and you guessed it, an enormous hat, many people, well over 50, threw themselves fearlessly into the crowd. This is the kind of music people go wild to, feel connected to, fall in love listening to, and all the more intensely when seeing the seven-piece play live.” – Huffington Post
They made a triumphant return to Alexandra Place in London, a show picked by British GQ magazine that week as one of their “10 coolest things to do in London”. It also heralded the long awaited return of the band to Sónar Festival, Barcelona for the first time since 2006, this time Freddy’s performed at and pulled the biggest audience at both Sonar By Day and Sonar By Night.
Further proof of Freddy’s international following, was sold out concerts in London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Berlin and the demand for tickets to two intimate shows jammed online ticket sales with 1200 tickets to Holzmarkt, Berlin going in less than a day, and 1000 tickets for Plleek, Amsterdam sold out in less than 20 minutes.
Fat Freddy’s Drop truly have cemented their reputation as an international band that few can match. Their European Tour Manager Alex Bienkov says, “we just can’t seem to tour enough!”
Make sure you are one of the lucky ones who see the band this summer, live in Aotearoa!
