‘M3LL155X’ features five songs, four of which – ‘Figure 8’, ‘I’m Your Doll’, ‘In Time’, ‘Glass & Patron’ – are accompanied by a video directed by FKA twigs herself. The four film pieces come together to form one continuous FKA twigs-directed work, cementing who she is as an artist with an aggressive statement conceptualising the process of feeling pregnant with pain, birthing creativity and liberation.
M3LL155X is a continuation of the holistic creative process that FKA twigs has undertaken on each of her previous EP releases (‘EP1’ and ‘EP2’), with videos forming an integral part of the release. However, M3LL155X is more ambitious than ever before and, in terms of concept, scope and execution, is undoubtedly one of FKA twigs’ most complete works to date.

FKA twigs fans will already be familiar with ‘Glass & Patron’, which was released as a YouTube Music Awards winning video earlier in the year and has since been viewed over 4 million times. Meanwhile ‘Figure 8’ – which features visual icon Michèle Lamy cast in the accompanying video – was recently premiered via Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. ‘I’m Your Doll’ sees FKA twigs reclaiming misguided words she first wrote as a teenage girl and re-contextualising them as a woman. And ‘In Time’ – premiered this evening by Radio 1’s Annie Mac as the ‘Hottest Record In The World’ – is one of FKA twigs’ most direct yet compelling pieces to date.
Made with both new collaborator BOOTS and longer-term collaborators tic and Cy An, most of the EP came from a spontaneous creative period just a couple of months after the release of FKA twigs debut album LP1, when twigs went to New York between tours. Having met by chance, twigs and Boots immediately started work, pushing each other to explore and recording the bulk of the EP in just a few days.
The M3LL155X EP will be available to stream and download immediately. It will also be available on 12” vinyl. For the EP artwork, FKA twigs revisits a creative partnership with one of her early collaborators – the London-based artist Matthew Stone, who photographed twigs’ first ever magazine cover.

In recent months FKA twigs has wowed fans and critics alike with a series of stunning live performances. Earlier this year she debuted her Congregata show – a spectacular combination of music, dance, performance and autobiographical narrative that was met with widespread acclaim during a run of sold out shows in both London and New York. Then, following a much talked-about performance on the West Holts Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival (which led The Guardian to describe her as “simply the most adventurous popstar working today”), twigs decamped to Manchester in July to begin a residency at the 2015 Manchester International Festival. The residency saw FKA twigs inviting fans into rehearsals to witness the real time creation of a brand new dance and music-based performance piece, titled Soundtrack 7, which was ultimately performed in full during a series of sold out performances (Inside Soundtrack 7, an online record of the creative process, is available to view HERE)
