Florentino releases a brand-new EP Kilometro Quinze out now on XL Recordings / Remote Control. The five-song project is Florentino’s debut EP on XL Recordings / Remote Control as part of the iconic house bag series. It includes the celebrated single ‘Constrictor (feat. BAMBII and KD One)‘ and newly released single ‘Pressure‘ featuring the Mercury Prize-shortlisted multi-hyphenate, Shygirl.
Created over a three-year period between Manchester, London, Bogotá, New York, and LA, Kilometro Quinze features bold solo productions from Florentino (aka Yeshe Bahamon Beesley) alongside additional collaborations with Venezuelan-native Baby Cocada and fellow Sangre Nueva bandmate, DJ Python. A direct reference to his grandfather’s farm near Villavicencio – a city in central Colombia where the Andes meet the plains of Los Llanos – Kilometro Quinze is a total realisation of the riveting, cross-culture club sound that Florentino has carefully constructed over the last few years. By drawing on the vast musical influences of his British-Colombian heritage, Florentino presents a unique sonic world where the darker acid tones central to Manchester’s underground club scene meet the irresistible swing of Latin American dance sounds. Kilometro Quinze is Florentino at the height of his powers as he releases some of his most captivating, innovative music to date.
Speaking on the EP, Florentino says – “Kilometro 15 is the name of the road that exists closest to my grandad’s farm, a lot of this record is inspired by my time there over the years. This almost nameless road, that exists near to a military base on one side & marsh jungle like land on the other, represents an in-between place to me, a path to somewhere that feels like home. Since the inception of Florentino on that farm years ago, I’ve constantly been chasing a sound in between the darker UK club music I was immersed in growing up in Manchester and the different styles of Colombian music my family had introduced me to. Growing up my mum would blare Salsa and Cumbia from Colombia whenever my dad wasn’t playing Dub or Acid. Kilometro Quinze is me making my own mark in-between the two sonic worlds, rather than chasing the idea of making something as close to what I admire as possible. It’s not one or the other, it’s both and something new all at the same time. It’s a sound I can call my own and can continue to explore deeper moving forward.”
At the forefront of Manchetser’s innovative electronic scene, Florentino debuted in 2015 via the vital label wing of club night Swing Ting, where he released the critically acclaimed ‘Tu Y Yo’. Since then he has gone on to release via a globe-trotting list of formidable labels including Dre Skull’s NYC label Mixpak and Mexico City’s N.A.A.F.I. Always reliably able to assemble an improbable but always on-point cast of global music makers, Florentino set up his own label Club Romantico in 2021 to amplify the alternative and forward-thinking Latin club sounds from across the globe. In the same year, Florentino came together with Kelman Duran and DJ Python, to form underground supergroup alias Sangre Nueva and release the acclaimed EP Goteo. Elsewhere, he has collaborated with the likes of Bad Gyal, Shygirl, Isabella Lovestory, and The Martinez Brothers, all whilst performing for some of the world’s most credible clubs and festivals including Primavera, Nowadays, Draaimolen, Corsica Studios, and The White Hotel.
