In a fresh move, IMNZ along with NZ Music Commission enter into the 2018 Going Global Music Summit having signed the Keychange pledge. This international campaign invests in emerging female talent whilst encouraging industry conferences and festivals to sign up to a 50:50 gender balance pledge by 2022. Since the early 2017 inception, over 110 festivals and conferences from all over the world have signed up to the pledge making Keychange a movement for positive change.

Although previous years’ Going Global Music Summit and Presents showcase lineups have operated at a gender equal level, the significance of aligning with the global initiative was cemented this week by the signing of the Keychange Pledge.

Dylan Pellett from Independent Music NZ elaborates, “Keychange is a brilliant initiative that gives conferences and festivals a way to show they are committed to attaining, or continuing, to hold places for equally loud voices.  Signing up to the pledge shows Going Global’s commitment for upholding our values to have equal gender representation.”

Francine Gorman from Keychange – PRS Foundation responded to the commitment saying, “Fantastic to hear about the events that you’re working on, and that you’re already reaching the 50/50 target laid out in the Keychange Pledge. It’s great for us to have summits such as yours on board, as models of events that are already achieving balance within their programming – which very much helps us to encourage others to do the same.”

In 2018 the summit will present an exciting schedule of live music events alongside a daytime program of panels, presentations, workshops and discussions. The focus is on new music and as such the live music showcases aim to reflect originality in contemporary live music practice.

GOING GLOBAL MUSIC SUMMIT 2018 is proudly brought to you by Independent Music New Zealand in partnership with the NZ Music Commission and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development and is supported by NZ On Air, APRA AMCOS and a Recorded Music NZ Music Grant.

The  Keychange pledge movement began as a European talent development programme for female artists and innovators and is led by UK investors of new music and talent development, PRS Foundation. The 50:50 pledge was proposed by Keychange festival partners who wanted to show they are serious in their commitment to gender equality in addition to offering showcasing opportunities to female talent. Keychain Pledge now include its first  NZ members; the Going Global Music Summit (produced in partnership with Independent Music New Zealand).
