7 mins read

Suki Waterhouse is the ‘It Girl’ that everyone has been underestimating. Her new album Memoir of a  Sparklemuffin is about to take over the world.

Suki has a massive public profile as a model and actor. As a model, she has worked for Burberry, Redken, and more, and appeared in Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, and many others. As an actor, she performed in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, The Bad Batch, and the Amazon series, Daisy Jones and the Six. Suki is the face of the new SONOS headphone campaign which uses her single ‘My Fun’ as it’s soundtrack. She also has her own handbag brand with her friend and entrepreneur Poppy Jamie. Called Pop & Suki.

And…  if that’s not enough she is also a new mother alongside her longtime partner & actor Robert Pattinson (Twilight franchise)

Suki Waterhouse the Songstress

Suki Waterhouse’s music sounds like a collage of her inspirations, experiences, and emotions stitched together by honeyed vocal delivery, bright-eyed melodies, and evocative storytelling. It doubles as a mirror image of her life as a consummate creative, artist, actress, model, and mother, yet it also breaks the glass to unveil raw truth. She leans on an ever-evolving sonic palette to convey what she’s feeling—whether it be folky Americana, nineties alternative, turn-of-the-century indie, or handcrafted otherworldly pop.

You’ll hear Suki’s longing in a swooning chorus, fearlessness in a crunchy chord, elation in a danceable waltz, and wonder in a soft coo befitting of a lullaby. She faithfully followed a lifelong passion for music to her 2022 full-length debut, I Can’t Let Go. Adorned by ‘Moves’ and ‘Melrose Meltdown,’ it incited widespread critical applause from Variety, Nylon, NME, The Line of Best Fit, and more.

Between headlining shows and touring with Father John Misty, ‘Good Looking’ surged online, generating nearly a billion streams, going RIAA platinum, and paving the way for the Milk Teeth EP. Simultaneously, she absorbed inspiration from a season of change earmarked by unforgettable moments a la gracing the stage of Lollapalooza 2023, performing on multiple continents, becoming a mom, and closing out the Gobi Tent at Coachella in 2024. Everything just set the stage for the gold-certified songstress to assert herself as a versatile, vibrant, and vital presence on her 2024 double-LP, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin.

Memoir of a Sparklemuffin

Suki Waterhouse is announcing the release of Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, her new 18-track double album, out worldwide on Friday, September 13th, 2024, from Sub Pop.

Suki is also sharing ‘Supersad,’ the lead single which bursts out of the gate, kickstarted by fast-paced drum fills and garage-y guitars. “I tried to write a nineties song you could hear playing at the mall in Clueless or as an opening track for Legally Blonde,” she smiles. The single was produced by Brad Cook and the album’s Executive Producer Eli Hirsch, and written by Suki with Chelsea Balan, John Mark Nelson, and Lilian Caputo.

Also out today is the ‘Supersad’ official video, in which Suki plays a bed-rot protagonist and her game show fairy godmother. The sparkling new visual is from filmmaker and longtime creative collaborator Émilie Richard-Froozan.

Suki started her year with the release of album single ‘OMG’.

The track was co-written with Nathan Findlay and Jules Apollinaire and is described as “…a sythy, sleazy rock anthem, brimming with 90’s -tinged guitars, funky basslines and prominent drums, while Waterhouse’s dream vocals allude to a past lover” – Ones To Watch

The accompanying music video, directed by Émilie Richard-Froozan, Guided to a greenhouse by two companions, she gives a sultry, dynamic performance of the track, giving viewers a glimpse of her growing baby bump.

Already released from Memoir of a Sparklemuffin include songs ‘My Fun’ – currently being used for SONOS’s latest headphone campaign, and ‘Faded’.

Check them out below…

Praise for Suki Waterhouse
“… a glorious, free-spirited album that finds Waterhouse in glittering form, whether she’s trying to resist surrendering to love or paying tribute to all her dreams coming true.” ––  NME
“Suki Waterhouse’s latest single ‘OMG’ is an effortless fusion of pop and rock, marking a great first release of 2024 for the artist. The track is subtle yet powerful, Waterhouse delivering another flawlessly produced hit which is promising ahead of her forthcoming sophomore album ” – Redbrick
“Her newest release, ‘Supersad’, is an addictive pop-rock track, once again displaying Waterhouse’s inability to release an average song. The initially devastating lyrics contrast notably with the upbeat guitar backing, enhanced further by the singers spellbing vocals.” – The Indiependant

So… What’s a Sparklemuffin?

Suki  loosely tethered the 18 tracks on her new album to a transformative central concept represented by the Sparklemuffin spider….

“I came across the Sparklemuffin—which is wildly colored, does this razzle-dazzle dance, and its mate will cannibalize it if she doesn’t approve of the dance. It’s a metaphor for the dance of life we’re all in. The title felt hilarious, ridiculous, and wonderful to me.”
