Jamie xx has released Dafodil’, the fourth song to be revealed from his hotly-anticipated second album In Waves (released 20th September via Young). Situated heart-like in the album’s centre, ‘Dafodil’ is a swirling summer symphony that conjures the intense feelings of euphoria experienced on a dance floor. A collaborative masterclass featuring Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear and John Glacier, ‘Dafodil’ has been the subject of endless fan ID-ing over the last few years, while the song was recently performed live by John Glacier as part of Jamie’s recent The Floor residency in London.

Speaking on the new single, Jamie xx says “Dafodil was one of the first pieces of music that I made for this album, it was actually the song that made me realise I could finally make another album. I am forever grateful to Kelsey Lu, with whom this song began as voice notes about a hazy night we both remembered. Thank you to John Glacier and Panda Bear whose voices perfectly evoke the unique feeling of summer nights in London.”

Kelsey Lu added “Dafodil. A fun ride into a cute sexy hazy night in London shared with my dear friend Jamie xx. Memories of my first London summer I’ll cherish forever that are now encapsulated for us all to be in ecstasy together. See you on the dance floor.”

In April, Jamie released ‘Baddy On The Floor’, his joyous summer collaboration with Honey Dijon, before heralding news of the album in June with the riotous ‘Treat Each Other Right’; a muscular breakbeat anthem-meets-futuristic soul burner that was accompanied by a much-talked about video from photographer and filmmaker Rosie Marks. In June, he collaborated with Robyn on her first major new release in six years with ‘Life’, a hymn as nu-disco affirmation that arrived in a blaze of horns and filtered loops, featuring one of the most iconic vocalists in recent times. Together with recent single ‘All You Children’ featuring The Avalanches and now ‘Dafodil’, fans get a glimpse into the joyous, euphoric record to come.

Jamie xx’s long-awaited return has unfolded across a series of exciting global events over the few months. At the unveiling of The Floor in May – a 10 consecutive night London club residency that also featured unannounced guest appearances from Charlil xcx and George Daniel, Romy, Daphni, 2ManyDJs, John Glacier, Jockstrap, Axel Boman, Two Shell, Yu Su, Lil Silva, MJ Cole, DJ Python and more – Jamie previewed every track from  In Waves. At his triumphant return to Glastonbury in June, he was joined on-stage by Robyn for a performance of ‘Life,’ and his The xx  bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim for a performance of the unreleased In Waves track ‘Waited All Night.’

Since then, Jamie has expanded The Floor into the USA, with 5 night residencies  in New York and LA respectively. The event series saw Jamie xx joined by the likes of Four Tet, Hudson Mohawke, Ben UFO, François K, Anthony Naples, Bambii, John FM, Bianca Oblivion, Mia Carucci, Jubilee, Florentino, Nourished By Time, Sister Zo, and more. Jamie has also confirmed festival appearances at III Points (Miami), Life Is Beautiful (Las Vegas), FORM (Arizona), in addition to two hometown headline performances at London’s Alexandra Palace (September 25th + 26th) and Mexico City’s Pepsi Center (October 2nd). Across In Waves’ 12 tracks – which will be released nine years on from his GRAMMY, BRIT, Ivor Novello and Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut album In ColourJamie replicates the emotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night out that also sees him reuniting with Oona Doherty (on album closer ‘Falling Together’) and his The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim (on ‘Waited All Night’) . Created over a four year period ushered in by his much-loved 2020 Essential Mix, and peppered with periods of self-reflection, a global pandemic, the blinking reemergence into the strobe light, and a newly discovered love of surfing-as-escapism, it’s an album that’s on course to eclipse the heights of its globally-acclaimed predecessor.

In Waves will be available digitally, on CD and in multiple vinyl formats, A Deluxe LP will feature a bonus 12” of previous singles ‘It’s So Good’, ‘KILL DEM’ and ‘LET’S DO IT AGAIN’ plus two exclusive new tracks: ‘F U (ft. Erykah Badu)’ and ‘Do Something’
